A lot of controversy surrounds the time of offering. Many assumptions & stereotypes give it a negative connotation.
The casual observer might propose, "Why should I give? All the money is going to the pastor anyway?"
Those with a surplus might say, "I can spare a few dollars in the collection."
The parishioner with a tight budget might think, "This is all I can afford, take it or leave it!"
And the faithful member might possess the spirit of, "Giving an offering to God is obligatory! I gotta make sure I pay my tithes & offerings."
The mentalities may vary, but the only true way to understand God's divine intent for the collection of the saints, one must consult the scriptures. Here in Luke 21, Jesus & the disciples witness a beautiful display of sacrificial offering to God in the poor widow.
As we observe & examine the text one must ask, "Why did she give? Did her offering really matter? How did Jesus feel when He witness her sacrifice? What can we learn from this passage?"
