This Sunday, we’ll learn more about Eden Village of Tulsa, a community working to make homelessness rare in Tulsa. Eden Village provides permanent, supported housing in tiny homes for people experiencing chronic homelessness, along with community, relationships, and on-site support.

In the last two weeks we’ve been struck by multiple celebrity and activist deaths. This Sunday I want to explore the lives of three specific sages, Dolly Parton, Tim Curry, and Gloria Steinem. Though I hope my words honor their lives, my goal is to answer the question, “What can I learn from their lives to make the world a better place?”

Each month, Hope selects a Non-Profit Organization to donate the entirety of our Collection Plate proceeds to. This month, our Generosity Recipient is Eden Village of Tulsa. Eden Village of Tulsa is a nonprofit creating permanent, supportive housing for people experiencing chronic homelessness. Their 17-acre community includes 63 tiny homes, a community center, gardens, and a working farm, providing residents not only with a safe and dignified place to call home, but also with opportunities to build community, stability, and a new future.

2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. How do we celebrate that milestone today? We aren't the first Americans to wonder what it means to have a complicated relationship with our country. Through Frederick Douglass ' What to the Slave is the Fourth of July? and Danielle Allen's Our Declaration, we will explore how to reclaim the Declaration and invest ourselves in democracy.

“Fleeting Doctrines and Enduring Love”

It is not uncommon for UU ministers, at some point in their lives, to preach a sermon based on Theodore Parker’s 1841 hit sermon, The Transient and the Permanent in Christianity. Though most modern UU ministers and preachers will remove the word “Christianity” and instead say, “Unitarian Universalism.” And it makes sense — this sermon topped the charts on May 19, 1841, and we’ve come a long way since then. But what makes the sermon so great is not just the really rad title, but the content.

Well folks, it is my turn to preach some variant of The Transient and the Permanent. I plan on doing so with gusto and grace, AND I plan on rooting it in our Unitarian Universalist heritage and history.

I have enjoyed preaching some sermons on UU history. This week, I will be talking about how the Unitarian Church helped create the Transcendentalist movement of the 19th century and how that movement still informs us today.

August's Generostiy Recipient is Tulsa Metropolitan Ministry .Tulsa Metropolitan Ministry (TMM) is an interfaith nonprofit that brings together diverse faith communities and organizations to build relationships, encourage understanding, and work collaboratively to meet the needs of the greater Tulsa community.

It is this history that created the opportunity for Unitarian Universalism to grow beyond the limitations of its own name. This week I am going to look at our continued transformation jumping to 1933 as we explore our humanistic roots.

A Musical Odyssey

An odyssey is a long voyage. The Odyssey is a work by Homer that tells the story of a person taking a long voyage home following the Trojan War. In that story, the man Odysseus has to fight his way past gods and monsters in order to get back home, never realizing how much he gets in his own way.

This Sunday, we will explore the theme of Odyssey through the music of O Brother, Where Art Thou? We hope to see you there.
