Most of us are comfortable with Jesus as a source of comfort.

We are less comfortable with Jesus as our highest loyalty.

In this week's Gospel, Jesus reminds his disciples that following him is not simply one commitment among many. It is the commitment that shapes every other part of our lives.

"To claim Jesus as your Savior means that we belong to him above all earthly relationships."

The Gospel is not a promise that life will be easy.

Jesus never tells his disciples they will be popular, comfortable, or free from struggle. Instead, he tells them the truth:

"Discipleship costs something."

The good news is that the One who calls us is also the One who walks with us. Faithfulness may be costly, but we never bear that cost alone.

"Do not be afraid."

A joyful Sunday at Saint D's.

Today we welcomed Mother Cheryl Harder-Missine as our guest preacher. Reflecting on Jesus' challenging words in Matthew's Gospel, she reminded us that discipleship is not simply about comfort. It is about faithfulness. Following Christ comes with a cost, but we do not walk that road alone. As Jesus tells his disciples, and us, "Do not be afraid."

Earlier this week, members of Saint Dunstan's joined volunteers from across our community at the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, helping sort and prepare food for neighbors facing hunger. It was a tangible reminder that faith is not only something we believe, but something we live.

Thank you to everyone who worshiped, served, and shared in the life of this parish this week.

Summer may be in full swing, but there is no shortage of activity at Saint D's this week.

🎬 Tomorrow evening, join us for a screening of Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret and dinner. Dinner at 5:30p.m. Movie at 6p.m.

✝️ Sunday at 10:00 a.m. we gather for Holy Communion, followed by Coffee Hour and our summer forum, Paul Among the People.

🍽️ Wednesday evening, pull up a chair for dinner and conversation as we continue exploring Cherished Belonging with Rev. Deacon Alan Barrow.

🏳️‍🌈 Looking ahead, next Sunday's Pride Service at 5:00 p.m. will bring together Episcopal congregations from across Tulsa as we celebrate fifty years of The Episcopal Church's journey toward LGBTQ+ inclusion. A festive reception will follow.

We are remarkably good at creating exceptions. Jesus wasn't.

The love of God is bigger than our categories, stronger than our fears, and wider than our comfort zones.

"Agape is God's love for all, no exceptions, no matter what."

The world has heard Christians say "Jesus loves you."

The harder question is whether people can see that love in the way we live.

Compassion isn't an idea.
It's a meal shared.
A burden carried.
A neighbor welcomed.
A need met.

Faith becomes believable when love becomes visible.

Later this month, we look forward to joining our friends from St. Aidan's Episcopal Church Tulsa, Trinity Episcopal Church, and Christ Church Tulsa for a special Pride Service celebrating fifty years of The Episcopal Church’s journey toward LGBTQ+ inclusion.
This joyful service will feature musicians and choirs from five Tulsa Episcopal parishes, along with civic leaders from across our community. The offering received that evening will support Oklahomans For Equality.
A festive reception will follow the service, offering time for fellowship and celebration.

Whether you are a longtime Episcopalian, a member of the LGBTQ+ community, an ally, or simply curious, we invite you to join us for this special evening of worship, thanksgiving, and community. All are welcome. 🌈✨
