As one of the mission center leaders who has been in communication with the congregation involved, I want to offer a brief word of context. As it was written, the Welcoming Statement brought forward at the recent business meeting was not approved, and I recognize the hurt and disappointment this has caused for many who care deeply about full inclusion. I share in that sadness.
This is not the end of the journey. The congregation remains open to continued conversation, and there is a clear desire to keep engaging, listening, and discerning a statement that reflects both their identity and their hopes for the future. The principles of common consent will continue to guide this work.
I am grateful for Harmony’s ongoing partnership and for the support that is offered to so many. Their advocacy helps create space for honest dialogue of which we can grow. There is still more to do, and we will keep walking this path together, trusting that the Journey is not finished.
