The St. Paul’s UMC family would like to give a big thank you to Rev. Chris Moore, Rev. Gina Woods and all of Fellowship Congregational UCC for allowing us the use of their sanctuary for our Good Friday service. This was our view as we departed in silence. Your hospitality is as sacred as your space. Here in the holiness of this Saturday, we give you our sincerest thanks and wish you all the joy of tomorrow morning. Peace be with you.

Rev. Meg again with your Thursday Lent devotional. I’ve mentioned before how much I love our stained glass windows at sunset. Because of the fire, I just happened to be in the sanctuary at sunrise on Tuesday morning. I’ve never had the opportunity to be stunned by the beauty of sunlight filtering through that window before. I don’t know what you need to get through tough times, but this was exactly what I needed. Having seen the damage to our children’s area and all the things we’ve worked so hard on, I was honestly feeling pretty sad. Then I walked into the sanctuary and there’s this window, just as bright and brilliant as the other and with the exact image that I needed to be emblazoned on my mind. Jesus with the children. “Let the little children come to me.” Matthew 19:14. Mark 10:14. Luke 18:16. He said to let them come. And so they shall. Here in this place and in all other places where the people of God make them welcome.

Rev. Meg here… and this is not how today’s devotional was supposed to go. If you haven’t heard already, we had a fire overnight. No one was injured. It got reported early and Tulsa Fire Department was here and got it contained in minutes. We heard that another 5-10 minutes and we could’ve lost everything. I heard another person say that in 24 years, this might be the fastest stop he’s ever seen. TFD was quick, courageous and kind. Rev. Amy and I could not be more grateful to them. As shown in the pictures, most of the damage is in and above the children’s area. There’s not a lot to be done right now. Even though the damage is amazingly limited to pretty much one area, it’s still going to take a restoration crew to get us up and going again. We will be closed for a little while. We will keep everyone updated about plans for worship. Holy Week is coming, but you know something? That week is going to be holy no matter what. We will get through this just like we get through everything - like the faith family that we are. ❤️ ⛪️ ❤️

Rev. Meg here with your Saturday night Lent devotional.

Because the equinox was yesterday, today was the first full day of spring. There’s so many parallels between spring and resurrection that I could reference. What about these? Allergies. Sneezing. Headaches. Itching. Brain fog from taking too much Benadryl! Okay, so those things don’t have anything to do with resurrection. At least not really. But they are the things we all get to deal with every year when everything comes back to life. So maybe the metaphor is this - starting over isn’t always pretty. There can be complications. That’s why we have Biblical wisdom like “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end.” You know what book that’s from? Lamentations. In other words - things haven’t exactly gone well. That’s the thing, starting over doesn’t mean it will go well this time either. That thought can make a person afraid to try. BUT. Maybe that’s why the mercy is new every morning. So we can get up and do our best. Then, if it all turns out for the worst, we can turn right around tomorrow and do our best again. Just try you best every day and no matter what, rest well at night knowing the mercy will be new in the morning.
