XII Sunday after Trinity
In today’s Gospel (Mark 7:31–37), Jesus travels through the Decapolis and heals a man who is deaf and has a speech impediment. After taking him aside from the crowd, Jesus touches his ears and his tongue, looks up to heaven, and says "Ephphatha" (meaning "be opened"). The man is instantly healed, and the crowd exclaims in amazement that he has done everything well.

Luke 18:9–14 presents the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector. Jesus addresses it to those who trust in their own righteousness and despise others. A Pharisee proudly boasts of his good deeds before God; he stands and prays, praising himself. He speaks of fasting and tithing, and boasts that he is not like thieves or the tax collector; meanwhile, a tax collector asks for forgiveness with profound humility, remaining at a distance. He does not look up to heaven but beats his breast and says, "God, have mercy on me, a sinner."
Only the humble man returns justified.

The Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ

The Transfiguration is a biblical event in which Jesus went up a high mountain with the apostles Peter, James, and John. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white and radiant. Moses and Elijah appeared, conversing with him, and a voice from a cloud said, "This is my beloved Son; listen to him." This event revealed Jesus' divine glory to the disciples prior to his Passion and death. It strengthened the apostles' faith, enabling them to understand Jesus' coming suffering through the hope of the resurrection.

Seeing that a crowd had been with Him for three days and had nothing to eat, Jesus felt compassion and miraculously fed about 4,000 people with just seven loaves and a few fish, ensuring everyone ate their fill and seven baskets remained. This passage—also known as the feeding of the four thousand—profoundly highlights Christ’s love and providence regarding the physical and spiritual needs of His followers.
