Shirley Lois Marie Turner was promoted to her heavenly home on December 18, 2025. Shirley was born in Oklahoma City on August 9, 1937, at the Home of Redeeming Love and then was chosen by Loyd and Mertie Cox the following May of 1938 and became their only daughter and middle child. Shirley grew up in Oilton, Oklahoma then moved to Tulsa around age four where she lived until moving to Owasso in 1994. She was a 1956 graduate of Tulsa Central High School. She had the rare privilege of having lifelong friends that she grew up with in Tulsa from a very early age.
She married Albert "Leo" Turner in 1960 and together they raised a family in Tulsa. In 1962 she graduated from the University of Tulsa with a degree in Business Administration. Shirley and Leo were both very active and involved with their church family and spent some years serving with Gideon's International as well.
Shirley was good with numbers. She started teaching at Tulsa Business School and then joined the faculty as an accounting teacher at Booker T Washington High School in Tulsa from 1977 until her retirement in 1997. Her years at Booker T were her favorite. Shirley then worked as a financial secretary at Skelly Drive Baptist Church for fifteen years. Shirley also served on the Board of Directors for Tulsa Teachers Credit Union for over 10 years.
Shirley had many wonderful qualities. She was a good friend to others, patient and kind. She was very creative, a good cook, had a sense of humor, and was very thoughtful of others. She loved watching sports. She especially liked OU football and the OKC Thunder. She had the gift of giving and putting others needs above her own. She was always on the lookout for the perfect gift for anyone she knew.
As her eyesight faded, she spent many hours listening to her favorite Bible teachers. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Most importantly, Shirley was a follower of Jesus and enjoyed learning more about Him and was always ready to share what she learned with others. She had many health issues the last 10 years of her life but handled them with grace. She lived what she believed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Loyd and Mertie Cox, brothers; Bill and Roy Cox and husband Leo Turner. She leaves behind children; David Turner, Paul Turner and wife Christy, Karla Price and husband Lyle, three grandsons; Jordan Price, Joshua Harper, Jacob Turner and wife Mariah and one granddaughter Jill Price-Lessly.
