Proud to say that I had the privilege of performing this couple’s wedding years ago…and the grandparents were charter members of the church we planted back in 2012. This is such a great reminder to me, and I hope to you that little acts of faithfulness make the most difference.

Your life is a v***r, a mist, a single breath on a cold morning—but it's a breath that opens into forever. This isn't depressing; it's liberating. When you grasp how brief this life is, you stop wasting it on what doesn't matter. The repetition, the forgetfulness, the restlessness—all of it points beyond itself to something greater. God designed this v***r-life to make us homesick for heaven, to create holy dissatisfaction with anything less than Himself. One day there will be no more tears, no more death, no more monotony, no more striving after wind. Until then, hold everything loosely except Christ. Invest in eternity. Live as someone who knows this breath is just the beginning. The best is yet to come.

Romans 8:18-25

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the anxious longing of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. 23 And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body. 24 For in hope we were saved, but hope that is seen is not hope, for who hopes for what he already sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we eagerly wait for it.

Revelation 21:1-5

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, 4 and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain. The first things passed away.” 5 And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.”

Increased wisdom often brings increased sorrow as we see through the world's charades and recognize brokenness beyond human repair. Solomon's wisdom led him to vexation; knowledge revealed how bent and unfixable this world truly is. Yet Christian wisdom doesn't end in cynicism—it begins in Christ. Yes, the darkness is real and deep, but "the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." Politics won't fix what's broken. Human effort cannot straighten what is bent. But Jesus has already won. Every struggle you witness, every injustice you observe, every disappointment you experience is temporary. Light defeats darkness. Life conquers death. We are more than conquerors. Let wisdom make you realistic, and let Christ make you optimistic.

John 1:1-5

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. 5 And the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overtake it.

Romans 8:28

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.

History will forget your name. Your great-great-grandchildren won't know your accomplishments, your struggles, or your dreams. This sobering reality could crush us—or liberate us. Solomon discovered that earthly monuments crumble and memories fade, but Paul reveals the glorious exception: labor in the Lord is never in vain. When you serve Christ, your work transcends the v***r of this life and echoes into eternity. The forgetfulness of this world becomes grace, redirecting our ambition from earthly legacy to eternal impact. You don't need a monument that lasts a thousand years; you need a relationship with the God who remembers forever. Work for the audience of One, and your labor will outlast every earthly memorial.

1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
