JOHN 14:18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

You are not facing life all alone -- no matter how you feel.

Jesus is with you. He promised to never forsake you.

Our enemy loves to make us think we have no help, that God does not care, and we have no hope. But the devil is a liar.

"But why does God allow things to look so bleak? Why doesn't He help me sooner?"

God desires faith and trust from us. Without testing times we would have no opportunity to show our faith. Without obstacles we would have nothing to overcome.

We must always remember that God is raising a family, preparing us for eternity with Him. It can be a great error to judge everything by "the bottom line" today.

We must trust our Father God, because only He really knows what the "true bottom line" is. And we can trust Him, because He is good and trustworthy.

MARK 6:31 And He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.

Balance is a difficult thing to achieve.

Success usually requires discipline, a large commitment of time, and a lot of hard work.

But sometimes what's needed is to take a vacation!

Taking a trip is not always necessary, but taking a break from your normal routine is.

You need time to think, and time to listen to what God is saying to you -- as well as physical rest. Without taking time to "recharge your batteries" you will never be your best.

People who face relentless responsibilities, such as pastors, mothers of young children, care givers, and owners of small businesses, especially need an occasional break.

(Be creative. It doesn't have to be expensive.)

We want to lead productive lives and be fruitful in our walk with the Lord, but we cannot take the place of God. We cannot do everything. We are not God.

Burning out is not a good witness for the Lord, as it makes Him look like a hard taskmaster.

Humans require rest. To continue to be healthy and productive for many years, we must live a balanced life which includes rest and taking time off.

Always keep the big picture in mind. That includes eternity.

HEBREWS 10:23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

Sometimes it seems like there's no hope and no help. Like you have no more strength or ability to go on. You're at the end of yourself and just can't do any more.

Don't worry. Just hang on to your faith in God.

God is faithful. He will not forsake you. He has not forgotten you. (It just seems that way when you face a trial of faith -- but it's a lie.)

It may seem dark and hopeless, but God is holding on to you. God is working behind the scenes. Things will work out.

When you don't know what to do, just continue to trust in God, and know that He is helping you. Persevere even when you feel like you can't. Just don't give up.

JAMES 1:2-4 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

Trials are no fun. But we should not be surprised when we find our faith being tested.

The devil is doing his best to steal your faith in God, but his best is not good enough. God is greater than the devil. Hang on to your faith!

Remember that God is for you. God is on your side. God will help you and see you through.

Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Keep praising and thanking God -- especially when you don't feel like it. Don't give up. Hang on!

Get Out Of Your Cave

1 KINGS 19:9 And there he went into a cave, and spent the night in that place; and behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

Elijah was hiding in a cave, fearful, discouraged, and confused.

Why?

Elijah knew God and had seen God do mighty things, even in answer to his own prayers. Yet he was human, just like the rest of us.

JAMES 5:17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months

Elijah had only one real problem, and it was not the adversaries he faced. It was that he got his focus off of God and onto himself.

To me, God seems amazed at Elijah's hiding. I picture Him thinking, "Doesn't Elijah know that I am greater than all his adversaries? Doesn't Elijah know that I will help him?"

I would paraphrase the verse above as, "What in the world are you doing here, Elijah? Have you forgotten who your God is? Have you forgotten who you are, a servant of Almighty God?"

Elijah was human -- just like us -- and we face the same difficulties in life. But just like Elijah, our real problem is not the problems we face -- but our focus.

We can focus on our inability and lack, or we can focus on God's ability and abundant provision.

Are you hiding in a "cave" today, afraid to venture forth and face life? Are you afraid of failure and rejection? Are you discouraged because things haven't worked out like you thought they would?

What are you doing?! Get out of your "cave!"

God is on your side. The Greater One is in you. The Lord is your helper. He has promised to never leave you or forsake you. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.

Right Standing With God Is A Gift

ROMANS 3:24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

Righteousness is right standing, or good standing with God. It does not mean human "perfection." You are righteous because God says you are.

You may wonder about Romans 3:10 which says no one is righteous. Yes, it does say that, but it is quoting an Old Testament passage to prove that both Jews and Gentiles were guilty before God and needed salvation. It immediately goes on to say in verses 22 and 24, that now we can be righteous through faith in Jesus Christ.

2 CORINTHIANS 5:19, 21 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

TITUS 3:5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

Righteousness is a gift from God -- not something you can earn or achieve. God simply declares you are innocent, as far as He is concerned, because of your faith in Jesus.

ROMANS 3:22 even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference;

ROMANS 10:10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

GALATIANS 2:16 knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.

The only way to have good standing with God is by accepting His gift -- Jesus Christ.

1 CORINTHIANS 1:30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption

ROMANS 5:17 For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.

God is Not the Author of Destruction

John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal, and kill, and destroy; I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly.

Ted Turner, the founder of the CNN TV network, tells how he turned against Christianity because of bitterness against God in his younger days. After the death of a family member, the preacher told him that "God took them," and he became bitter over it.

Ted Turner is not alone. Millions of people are mad at God because they believe He has done something wrong -- which He has not!

God is not going around killing people, or stealing from them, or destroying their lives. That is the work of the devil.

God is not guilty!

The greatest deception in history has been the devil convincing people that the things he does are done by God. The devil wants us to believe that God acts like the devil.

But it is a lie!

Of course, to pull this deception off, the devil had to get preachers, teachers, mentors, parents, etc. to spread his lies. No one would believe it if the devil personally preached it.

But just because someone who is called a preacher, a teacher, mentor, parent, or any other title, says something is true -- does not make it true. To find out the truth we need to go to the Bible and study it for ourselves.

Depending on so-called "experts" can lead you astray. Read and study the Bible for yourself.

JAMES 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

Greater Is He Who Is In You

1 JOHN 4:4 You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.

There are two vital points in this verse, which is addressed to believers.

FIRST, God is IN you -- not far off somewhere.

Yes, God is in Heaven -- but that is not the only place He is. By the Holy Spirit, God now has His dwelling place in you! You don't have to "try to reach God." He is right there! What you need to do is to cultivate an awareness of His presence. This, along with communication, is the way to develop a closer relationship with God.

Knowing that God lives in you, and that He loves you, should banish all fear from your life. Fear of failure should have no place. Fear of what other people think should not bother you. Fear of problems that may come up should be of no concern. You have God living in you!

2 CORINTHIANS 6:16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.”

SECOND, God, Who is within you, is greater. Greater than any problem. Greater than any difficulty. Greater than the devil. Greater than anything you will ever face.

1 JOHN 4:4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

This is the Word of God. We must embrace it and live in the light of it. We must meditate on it and speak it. We must resist any contrary thought the enemy might try to place in our thinking.

Galatians 5:13-14 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
