Friends, I need to hire a PT school specialist who could work from 8 am - noon, weekdays at the church to help support getting kids registered for school, to school, and help with any other school related situations (like picking up a sick kid). Driving is required. Church van is available. Let me know if you have any recommendations.

Our very own Pastor Bolerjack noted as a"Gift of the Puget Sound Region 2023" by the Seattle Times, "Bolerjack’s Riverton Park United Methodist Church has been sheltering migrants. Our dysfunctional federal government lawmakers might look to this small Tukwila church for inspiration from the good people who are doing so much with whatever resources they can muster to help." Thanks for the kudos The Seattle Times and thanks to all of our partners, volunteers, guests, staff, and community leaders who have made this refuge of last resort possible. Still thinking about making a end of year charitable donation? Consider donating to our work. All gifts are tax-deductible. www.rivertonparkumc.com/donate All of the funds go a long way to get basic necessities for the folks who arrive at our door.

We are very excited to share this news with you. The church has been part of a coalition of organizations advocating for government support for recently arrived migrants, asylum seekers and refugees. We are starting to see success with over 100 hotel rooms opened for families and pregnant women who have been sleeping in tents at our church including over a 100 children and babies. More families arrive every day seeking shelter from the violence, war and economic detestation from their home country. The opportunity and struggle to house our new neighbors remains, but today we rejoice that so many finally have a safe, secure and warm place to sleep tonight. Spread the word of this joyous news! Thanks to our partners: OneAmerica, WA Immigrant Solidarity Network -Red de Solidaridad de Inmigrantes en WA, Congolese Integration Network., Low Income Housing Institute The Church Council of Greater Seattle, and

EDIT: just a reminder that financial donations are most needed. Donate on our website to help us pay for basic food, electricity and rudimentary shelter for folks. If that’s on option: gently used goods can help. Right now- we are looking for gently used strollers. We have many mommas with small children and babies. We are looking for strollers with rain/shade covers and especially double strollers. There’s a lot of appointments these families have and getting around with little kids without strollers by foot is very difficult. Spread the word.

P.S. Another big need is gently used kids clothes for ages 8-14 for boys and girls. Thanks!

"Today, Carlo’s family will get to sleep inside, a staff member tells him. Tomorrow, outside. Carlo asks for clothes for his daughter. It’s so cold."

If you are looking for a way to help, please consider making a monetary donation. We use it to buy milk and yogurt for the kids, tarps, and our growing electrical bill.

As wintery weather sets in, hundreds of asylum-seekers sheltering at a Tukwila church sleep in cramped quarters or in water-logged tents waiting for more aid.

Greetings from Riverton Park-- Message from Pastor Jan!

I want to keep you connected to our work here and get your help spreading the word. This is an update on the recently arrived migrants and refugee families here at Riverton Park. Back in September, we had initially grown to 180 adults, children and infants. Most folks are sleeping in camping tents outside with some sleeping on our church floors. At the time, I thought we were close to capacity.Since then the need has only grown. We now have over 400 people sheltering outside in tents (and some inside) including almost 100 children and several pregnant women.

Can I tell you about Moises? He was just getting his walking legs when he first arrived along with his mother and father. They’ve been sleeping outside in a tent since September. Every morning when Moises waddles into the church he has a big smile on his face, but I can see the worry on his parents' faces as they struggle to keep him warm at night. We were just able to move them into a tiny house. Now not only is Moises smiling every morning but so are his parents.

All of these folks are a true blessing to our entire greater Seattle community. They worked so hard and experienced a lot of trauma to get here to give themselves and their children a secure and enriched life–something to which we all aspire.

I will be writing more in the coming weeks. Thank you for your support and prayers. It truly does take a village.

Working together for the greater good,

Rev. Jan Bolerjack
