Supporting that Idea comes this story about Master emphasizing depth from Mrinalini Mataji....
Master stressed that we should make each moment of meditation count, each moment a communion with God, a communion of our whole being with that Reality.
Once a few of us were with him when he took a period of seclusion in Arizona to work on his writings. Our days were very busy, and one morning I made a special effort to waken myself earlier, before I thought Master would call me, so that I could have a little more time for meditation. It wasn't a very deep meditation, but still I was proud of myself for meditating longer that morning.
However, when I saw Master, he looked at me and said, "You didn't meditate this morning.
I protested, "But Master, I meditated a whole hour."
He replied: "Half an hour should have been enough."
My spiritual pride was crushed! But I pondered this for a while; then understanding came, and I knew what he was saying:
"You meditated an hour, meaning you sat in the meditation posture for an hour, but if you had meditated even half of that time with depth and intensity, you would have gotten twice as much result from your meditation."
I recall also one of the monks, when he met Master in the hallway, very proudly saying to him, "Master, this morning I did three hundred Kriyas" — thinking that Master was going to say, "Oh, you blessed chela, how wonderful; I'm so proud of you!" But Master just kept walking down the hallway, saying very nonchalantly as he passed:
“Three should have been enough."
That is how he stressed the importance of depth in meditation.

SEEING GOD IN ALL PEOPLE AND CONDITIONS - Brother Bhaktananda
How we conduct our relationships helps determine whether or not we are making real, lasting spiritual progress. As we know, people and situations can test our patience and even our desire to behave in a spiritual way. At these times we must remember that God is in all people and all conditions. The more we live on this level, the more we realize the truth of Paramahansa Yogananda’s profound statement: “All the various relationships of family, society, and nationality…are but catalysts of life, intended to purify and convert earthly love into divine love.” And in this transformation we find our relationships becoming more rounded and beautiful in every way.
PERFECTING HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS ~ Examples of Abraham Lincoln, Bro. Bhaktananda
If a person is antagonistic it doesn’t mean we should feel bad about it, melt like butter. If we shrink that way then it means that we have a weakness that is harmful to us. If we easily get hurt then we are too sensitive, and Master used to speak about how bad sensitivity was. ....
"BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS. . ."
[Abraham] Lincoln was a man of great character. He practiced honesty, truthfulness. He was an attorney and he was hired to defend a company in a law suit. He prepared for the case. When it came time he entered the courtroom and there were two other lawyers. One was Edwin Stanton. And so Lincoln came up to Stanton and said that he was the one that was supposed to defend the company. And Stanton said, no, we just talked to the company and they want us to conduct this trial. And not only that, but Stanton insulted him, called him names, called him a country lawyer, and so on.
And so Lincoln took it, and he sat down to see how it was going to go, and if he had any part in it. And as he was listening to Stanton conducting this trial, doing his part, he realized he was a man of great intelligence, he was well prepared, he was mentally sharp, logical, and orderly. And so he admired Stanton very much, even though he was insulted just some time ago.
Then when Lincoln was voted to be the president of the United States, and Lincoln was forming his cabinet, and he wanted a good secretary of war, and he chose Edwin Stanton, who was his enemy. But they were not enemies for long. Stanton became his good friend. And so when Lincoln died, Stanton paid a great tribute to him.
DON'T I DESTROY MY ENEMY WHEN I MAKE HIM MY FRIEND?"
There’s another story about Lincoln which falls into this category of dealing with truth and honestly, rather than our own feelings.
Lincoln, while president, had an office to fill, and he mentioned to several of his cabinet members, he gave a man’s name, and he said I want to have him in this particular office. And someone said, well he’s your enemy. You should destroy your enemy.
And Lincoln said, ‘Don’t I destroy my enemy when I make him my friend?’
That’s the way to destroy enemies, be good ourselves, and we’ll be surprised how many people change and want to be good, too. Master gives us that opportunity. So we must change. As Master used to say when we are dealing with others, be a peacemaker. And Jesus likewise says, ‘Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God.’ And when we live the spiritual life, when we treat others properly, then we are peacemakers and blessed by God.

Change yourself and you have done your part in changing the world. Every individual must change his own life if he wants to live in a peaceful world. The world cannot become peaceful unless and until you yourself begin to work toward peace. It is only by removing hate from our hearts that we can live a Christ-like life.

The mind, being the brain, feeling, and perception of all living cells, can keep the human body alert or depressed. The mind is the king, and all its cellular subjects behave exactly according to the mood of their royal master. Just as we concern ourselves with the nutritive value of our daily food menus, so should we consider the nutritive potency of the psychological menus that we daily serve the mind.

Whatever it is that you fear, take your mind away from it and leave it to God. Have faith in Him. Much suffering is due simply to worry. Why suffer now when the malady has not yet come? Since most of our ills come through fear, if you give up fear you will be free at once. The healing will be instant. Every night, before you sleep, affirm: "The Heavenly Father is with me; I am protected." Mentally surround yourself with Spirit....You will feel His wonderful protection.

The value of occasional solitude is not to be underestimated, for it affords man an undisturbed opportunity to think of God and nothing else. The refreshed devotee can return to the world or to the hermitage to assume his usual duties. But if one considers the night to be his "forest of solitude and cell of silence," it will be unnecessary for him to make expensive or difficult trips to find solitude. Above all, the seeker must learn so to love God that wherever he is, as soon as he closes his eyes he is surrounded by a cell of silence, the Cosmic Deity throbbing in his heart as ever new Joy. The blissful Light shines behind the darkness; in deep silence, with closed eyes, any devotee may behold It. "Be still, and know that I am God."

Owing to the action of maya (delusion) operating through the active forces of Nature, man's mind flows outward through the senses, and the soul thereby becomes identified with the body and its possessions and environment. Thus begrimed with attachment, the pure nature of the soul is obscured; it becomes the pseudosoul or ego, with its individual delusion that develops likes and dislikes, the instigators of material entanglements. Only after many incarnations of suffering disillusionments from expecting lasting happiness from an impermanent body and its pleasures does man gradually take steps to give up his egoistic nature and turn to a sincere search for fulfillment in inner calmness, introspection, and discriminative action. It is then that God sends a guru who acquaints the devotee with the art of reuniting the matter-bound ego with Spirit. By interiorization of the mind, the soul forsakes its egoistic body-bound nature and its attachments to the activities and desires of the body and the senses and begins to remember and express its true nature as a perfect reflection of Spirit.

Sri Yukteswarji in Chapter 12 of Autobiography of a Yogi:

“The body is a treacherous friend. Give it its due; no more. Pain and pleasure are transitory; endure all dualities with calmness, trying at the same time to remove yourself beyond their power. Imagination is the door through which disease as well as healing enters. Disbelieve in the reality of sickness even when you are ill; an unrecognised visitor will flee!”

It is a natural worldly tendency for persons living in close relationships to evaluate each other not as souls but in terms of one's own expectations, resulting in erosion of mutual regard, lack of courtesy, overfamiliarity, suspiciousness, insulting speech or acts. In distant closeness love lives. In wrong familiarity love dies.

“Hold Tightly To the Hand of God” ~ DAYA MATA’S LETTER TO A DEVOTEE

Dear One,
If we want to get back to God, it is only natural that we have to struggle with the forces that for aeons have kept us bound to mortal consciousness. We should not be discouraged when we experience difficulties in our spiritual progress. The Bhagavad Gita says: “Only one among thousands of men strives for salvation: and, among those exalted seekers, perhaps only one will perceive Me as I am.” In these words we have a strong reminder from the Lord that the divine quest requires determined, conscientious endeavor. But the path is easy if we remember one thing: When the going gets rough, hold tightly to the hand of God. Whenever trials overwhelm us, or distractions try us, or doubts flood the mind we should turn within and pray: “O Lord, though my sea is dark and my stars are gone, still, through thy grace and mercy, I see the path.” Clinging to God is the key to success. Never give up! Keep on!

There is nothing akin to superstition, magic, self-hypnosis,
mediumistic spititualism, witchcraft, or any such practices in the
spiritual science of God-realization and God-union - yoga - as taught by a God-knowing master. It is the purest of sciences, for it opens naturally all inner doors for the expression of the potentials innate in the soul, the image of God in man, his true Self.
