Jesus Mary & Joseph Ministries of Tucson

Jesus Mary & Joseph Ministries of Tucson Since 1995, JMJ Ministries has been a religious organization and pilgrimage co., operated by H. Gayle Sims and numerous volunteers to serve our Priests.

JMJ is a ministry dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Our goal is to expand and better serve the Catholic Community by providing a larger facility which will serve as a community resource center. JMJ Ministries was a religious store and pilgrimage company that was owned and operated by H. Gayle Sims which started in 1995. Gayle, along with numerous volunteers and prayer partners, have offered ma

ny conferences, retreats, Holy Masses, catechism, education and aiding churches and Priests as well as taking them on pilgrimages. In doing so we are able to maintain Catholic traditions. In faithfulness to the magisterium we provide educational and spiritual direction that is utilized by Priests and lay people. In addition the ministry has been involved in community and neighborhood concerns through our prayer support ministry. In the 20 years of ministry in Tucson, our primary area has been on the South Side of Tucson with a special attention to the City of South Tucson, which is a very small, poor community. It is ministering to the people of the South side that we realized the importance for the need of a larger facility namely a resource center that will provide both a spiritual and a social haven for the area; facilities which at the present time do not exist in Tucson or the surrounding area.

ASH WEDNESDAY

“By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; FOR DUST YOU ARE AND TO DUST YOU WILL RETURN.”
—Genesis 3:19

ALMIGHTY AND ETERNAL GOD, today marks the beginning of a period of inner reflection and examination. Father, the days stretch before me and invite me inward to that silent, holy space that houses Your Holy Spirit. This special period invites me to examine my life through our Lord Jesus Christ’s eyes and the truth and reality of Your love embodied. Father, give me the grace to enter the atmosphere of these days with anticipation of our meeting. Lord, when I open my heart to Your presence, let Your loving kindness flow over me and seep into the pockets of my soul. I ask this for the sake of Your Love… ‘CREATE IN ME A PURE HEART, O GOD, AND RENEW A STEADFAST SPIRIT WITHIN ME’ (Psalm 51:10). Amen.

We celebrate the Feast of St. Juan Diego today (Dec 9) in preparation for the upcoming Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe in three days (Dec 12). St. Juan Diego, pray for us!

Twenty years ago, thousands gathered at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe for Pope John Paul II to canonize St. Juan Diego, to whom the Blessed Virgin Mary first appeared on December 9, 1531 on Tepeyac Hill.

The most wonderful part of his story is told in connection with the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12, after the roses he’d gathered in his tilma were transformed into the miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

In time he lived near the shrine constructed at Tepeyac, revered as a holy, unselfish and compassionate catechist who taught by word and especially by example.

During his 1990 pastoral visit to Mexico, Pope John Paul II confirmed the long-standing devotion to Juan Diego, beatifying him. Twelve years later he was proclaimed a saint.

God counted on Juan Diego to play a humble yet huge role in bringing the Good News to the peoples of Mexico. Overcoming his own fear and the doubts of Bishop Juan de Zumarraga, Juan Diego cooperated with God’s grace in showing his people that the Good News of Jesus is for everyone.

"In accepting the Christian message without forgoing his indigenous identity, Juan Diego discovered the profound truth of the new humanity, in which all are called to be children of God." (St. John Paul II)
