Shalom Mennonite Fellowship

Shalom Mennonite Fellowship Shalom Mennonite Fellowship is an Anabaptist Christian Church. Worship begins at 9:30am and adult and child ed starts at 11am during school year.

We are a group of Mennonite Christians living in the city, seeking the peace (shalom) of the place where we have been called to. It is a challenging, joy-filled journey as we seek to follow Jesus in real life, gather as a community of belivers to support each other in good times and bad, and to be about the work of reconciliation in our neighborhoods, our city, our country and our world.

Do you hear the ancient echo— “No kings”?

It rose in the streets on Palm Sunday,
carried by a different kind of procession,
and it has never stopped moving.

Still rising. Still resisting. Still calling us to look again at where power comes from… and where hope begins.

Today we experienced a truly beautiful and spirit-filled gathering, overflowing with God’s presence and love. It was a special time where our youth took the lead with passion, dedication, and willing hearts, reminding us that when they surrender to God, He moves in powerful and extraordinary ways.

Through the teaching based on Ruth 2, we were led to reflect on God’s faithfulness, His care, and His grace revealed even in the smallest details. God spoke to every life in a unique way, planting hope, restoring hearts, and renewing the faith of everyone present.

Without a doubt, it was a moment where the Spirit of God moved mightily, leaving an eternal mark on each of us. Glory to God for what He is doing in this generation!

Stanley W. Green taught us that in Gospel of John 13 we find one of the most profound lessons on humility and service in all of Scripture.

When Jesus washed the disciples’ feet, He was not performing a mere symbolic act; He was establishing an eternal principle: leadership in the Kingdom of God is grounded in service, not in position or status.

He reminded us that true love is not expressed only through words, but through concrete actions. Jesus, being Lord and Teacher, took the towel and knelt down, showing that spiritual greatness is revealed through a servant’s heart.

This passage challenges us to examine our own attitude: Are we willing to humble ourselves, to forgive, and to serve even when it is uncomfortable?

I had the opportunity to share a brief yet meaningful moment with students from Gonzaga University who were participating in a border immersion experience. They spoke with openness about a week marked by deep learning, challenging encounters, and thoughtful reflection.

During our time together, I brought a Rosca de Reyes—a simple gesture that carried a profound Gospel message: Jesus himself became a migrant and a refugee, living in displacement until it was safe for his family to return home.

One of the gifts of Shalom is the spirit of hospitality we are able to offer to groups who come to serve and to learn. In these shared spaces—around food, stories, and reflection—faith becomes tangible, not abstract, and is experienced, questioned, and lived at the margins.

Our first shared dinner of 2026 becomes a sacred moment when we live it in the light of the Gospel. As we meditate on Matthew 2:1–12, we remember the Magi who, guided by a star, set out on a journey with attentive and open hearts. They did not know exactly what they would find, yet they trusted the promise and moved forward.

In the same way, as we begin this new year gathered around the table, we recognize that God reveals Himself in simple things: in shared bread, in sincere conversation, in attentive listening. Like the Magi, we bring who we are and what we have, and we offer it with humility, knowing that the true gift is the encounter with Christ present among us.

May 2026 find us willing to follow the star God places on our path, to discern with wisdom, and to return to our daily lives “by another way,” transformed by His presence. May every shared meal also become an act of faith, gratitude, and communion.

As Shalom Church, as we come to the end of this year, we recognize the many challenges we have faced together. In every season, we have been shaped by patience and strengthened in faith, and we have clearly seen that God has walked with us, guiding us every step of the way.
Our desire as a church is that we continue moving forward day by day, preparing our hearts for the beginning of this new year with an attitude of gratitude for all we have experienced: for what was different and difficult, for the trials and moments of sorrow, for the losses, as well as for the ordinary moments, the simple blessings, and the joys that have sustained us.
Let us continue walking forward united as Shalom Church, making God the center, the foundation, and the hope of this new year that is before us.
