Nov 20 Luz de las Naciones cultural event --
Largest Latino cultural event of its kind in Utah will be broadcast Sat Nov 20 at 7:00pm MST, and will conclude with a prerecorded message from Elder D Todd Christofferson. Since 2000, in its early form, and 2004 on Temple Square, this annual event showcases a spectacular array of Latino music, dance and art. The origin of the “Luz de la Naciones” event exemplifies a strong testimony in the restored gospel and a righteous desire by Latino members of the Church to maintain their native language and cultures. This event not only cultivates unity among Latin Americans but also provides a normal and natural opportunity to invite our Latino brothers and sisters of all faiths to come and see.
This event is being offered as a fellowshipping and Latino outreach opportunity. In Utah, for example, mission presidents will be invited to consider ways in which missionaries can invite Latinos who are not of our faith to safely gather with Church members to view the event. Returned missionaries who served in Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries are also encouraged to invite their Latin American friends to watch the event.
In addition to being announced in Church meetings, the event will also be promoted through simple social media materials prepared for use by missionaries and members alike.
Please note that the broadcast will be available in Spanish and Portuguese at www.luzdelasnaciones.org
