Pastor Isaac Noriega will finally be required to appear in person for his Arizona Rule 11 competency hearing on Monday, Nov 24 at 9 AM in Courtroom 386.

Noriega is charged with failing to report suspected child s*xual abuse, including one Class 6 felony and one Class 1 misdemeanor under A.R.S. 13-3620 — Arizona’s mandated-reporter law for clergy. After his initial hearing, he avoided every court date through sealed motions and waived appearances, while continuing to preach normally.

Now he is telling the court he has dementia to avoid trial, yet still stands in the pulpit every Sunday with full authority. This will be his first public appearance since the case began.

If he’s found competent, the dementia claim collapses. If he’s not, then why is he still preaching and leading Golden Dawn Tabernacle?
Victims, families, congregants, and former members deserve transparency and real accountability.

Facing charges for failing to report child s*x abuse, Pastor Isaac Noriega now claims dementia. The Nov 24, 2025 hearing will test his credibility and accountability.

The silence that surrounds evil is what allows it to fester in the shadows. Today, we are sharing a story that shatters that silence. It is the story of Marcello, a survivor of profound courage who is coming forward to speak his truth about the horrific abuse he endured within the walls of the Golden Dawn Tabernacle church—a place that should have been a sanctuary. At his request, we will be using only his first name.

Marcello’s journey is one of immense bravery, but tragically, he is not alone. He is one of multiple young men who have now come forward to share their accounts of the abuse they all endured as boys at the hands of Jose Mora.

These men were forced to navigate their childhoods under a crushing weight of trauma and shame, with no trusted adults or support systems to turn to for help. Their isolation was cruelly intensified by an extremely homophobic environment, which created another layer of fear and self-doubt, making it nearly impossible for them to process what was happening or to speak out.

Without professional intervention and therapy, the deep wounds inflicted in childhood can lead to a lifetime of trauma. The experiences of these young men underscore the devastating, long-term impact that such abuse has on its victims.

We are not the first to bring these accounts to light; the stories of the survivors have been thoroughly investigated and published by the Arizona Daily Star, which has vetted the details of their harrowing experiences. Marcello’s story is the latest to be made public, as he is the most recent victim to bravely come forward and share his account with both the Arizona Daily Star and on GDT Research.

Tucson ‘cult’ church member molested boy hundreds of times in pews, new victim alleges

Sharing this story is not meant to shock, but to awaken. It is a stark reminder of the importance of speaking up and shining an unflinching light on abuse, especially when it is perpetrated under the guise of weaponized religion. When faith is twisted into a tool for manipulation and harm, it is our collective responsibility to listen to the voices of survivors and hold institutions and their leaders accountable.

We ask that you read Marcello’s story with the respect and gravity it deserves. By bearing witness to his truth, we honor his courage and take a stand against the darkness that allows such atrocities to occur. His voice, and the voices of the other survivors, are a call to action, urging us all to protect the vulnerable and ensure that no one else suffers in silence.

Another Golden Dawn Tabernacle victim has come forward. Warning: graphic story.

"Marcello had just turned 11 when his assigned seat in the pews at Golden Dawn Tabernacle in Tucson, Arizona, changed. He would now sit away from his parents between two grown men. One man was a stranger to him.

"...Over multiple church services following the seating change in 1999, a 35-year-old man named Jose Mora gradually inched closer to Marcello until he could no longer see the velvety blue fabric of the pew between them, Marcello said. Mora then took his blazer off and placed it over his right leg and Marcello’s left leg.

"That’s when the abuse started, Marcello said.

"Hidden by the blazer, Mora started poking, prodding and stroking Marcello’s leg, Marcello said.

"Marcello said he would cross his arms to protect his groin and dig his fingernails into Mora’s wrist to try to get him to stop, but Mora wouldn’t. Marcello said Mora forced his hand down Marcello’s pants and groped his ge****ls.

"Once the groping started, Marcello said, Mora molested him every week in all three weekly church services until he was about 15 — roughly 500 services, if not more.

"Marcello said the abuse culminated with Mora violently ra**ng him at another church member's house when he was 14.

"'He took away my childhood,' Marcello said. 'Every time, a little piece of my childhood just wilted away.'"

A boy said he was molested repeatedly in the pews of his Tucson church, the Golden Dawn Tabernacle. The church's "cultish rules" kept him silent — until now.
