This weekend approximately 300 kids in third thru fifth grades, representing 22 churches in our conference attended the 2025 Faithology Retreat at Camp Glisson. We have a three-year scope and sequence based on stars, land, and water.
This year we talked about where stars appeared in the Bible, what it means to shine with the light of Christ, and how we can be a light for God.
Our lessons focused on God telling Abraham to count the stars—for that’s how many descendants he will have.
We also talked about three Magi who chose to follow a star 2000 years ago.
Connecting the dots between these two stories – how Jesus was a descendent of Abraham, led to the children realizing they are also Abraham’s offspring, and those billions of stars in the sky that Abraham looked out on 4000 years ago - include us!
Retreats are exhausting. They are messy, stinky and loud! They are time-consuming, and expensive and no one sleeps. But every time a child engages with a new friend, every time a group of children wrap their arms around each other and sing and sway together, every time the learn a new skill, and every time I see a child realize they are a child of God – it makes every single retreat worth it.
Our next retreat is March 20-22. Ask Mimi how you can help!
