Why do some churches celebrate Communion every week while others don’t? ⛪

In this edition of Ask the Church, we explore how our church’s understanding of the Eucharist shapes how often it is celebrated—and why Communion and the preaching of Scripture are both considered “means of grace.”

What is apostolic succession—and why should we care? ⛪

In this edition of Ask the Church, we explore how the Church has historically understood the passing on of apostolic authority and why succession is ultimately about preserving the gospel, not prestige.

Part 1 of our new Sunday School series, “How to Read the Bible Like the Ancient Church,” is now available. In this opening session, Fr. Steven offers an overview of how early Christians approached the Scriptures, and how recovering their way of reading can help orient us toward a fuller vision of Christ Himself.

We reflect on the importance of reading Scripture within the life of the Church rather than in isolation, and on the reminder that the goal of Bible reading is not intellectual mastery, but communion with the living God.

The session also introduces the early Church’s image of the four-horse chariot—the historical, Christological, moral, and eschatological ways Scripture speaks.

A personal note from the webmaster: Thank you for your patience as a number of recent audio Resources were delayed as we worked through a series of sound engineering adjustments and winter weather-related disruptions. I apologise for the delay, and we are grateful to now have this and other audio recordings from the last several weeks available via the Resources section of the website, as well as the church podcast. ~Adam

In this opening session of a new series, we consider how the Early Church read the Scriptures and why that way of reading still matters. Beginning with foundational assumptions—practice over theory, reading within the Church, and seeking communion with God Himself rather than mere head knowledge.....

Why do Anglicans use ashes on Ash Wednesday?

In this edition of Ask the Church, we explore the biblical roots of ashes as a sign of repentance, why we hear the words “Remember that you are dust,” and how this solemn practice prepares us for Lent and Easter.

WORSHIP SERVICE UPDATE — SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 1 (9:00 AM)

We plan to hold our Sunday worship service in person at 9:00 AM.

Although temperatures will be cold, current forecasts indicate Richmond is not expected to receive much, if any snow. However, many neighborhoods remain unplowed, and the church parking lot is extremely icy and hazardous. For this reason, anyone who is not fully confident driving or walking on ice is strongly encouraged to remain at home.

A livestream of the service will be available for those unable to attend in person:

VOLUNTEERS: If you are scheduled to serve and do not feel it is safe to travel, please do not come out of obligation. We will arrange coverage. Please let Katherine ([email protected]) know as soon as possible if you will be unable to serve.

The service begins at 9:00am EST on Sunday, February 1, 2026.All songs used with permission, CCLI # 123456789

Why did God become man? 🎄

Most of us would say, “to die for our sins”—and that’s gloriously true! But in this edition of Ask the Church, we explore a deeper answer: God became man so that He could live for us, replaying and renewing all of human history in His own life.

🎶 Two days to go!
This Friday, December 19 at 6:00 p.m., we’ll gather for our fourth annual Service of Lessons & Carols—and all are invited.

This beloved service weaves together Scripture readings and music (including traditional carols) to tell the story of God’s saving work—from Genesis to the birth of Christ.

Our choir and musicians have been working hard, and we can’t wait to share this year’s service with you.

Afterward, join us for treats and warm drinks in the Fellowship Hall.

Bring a friend and come sing with us!
