Holy Infant of Prague Catholic Church

Holy Infant of Prague Catholic Church We are a Catholic parish located in Trussville AL and part of the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama Holy Infant Of Prague began in 1939 when Fr. John A. Fr. Rev.

Bratton celebrated Mass twice a month in a vacant apartment in the newly completed Cahaba Housing Project of Trussville. A census of Trussville was completed in 1940 showing fifty Catholic families in the surrounding areas. The following year Bishop Toolen appointed Fr. Frank Giri as first Pastor in preparation for the building of the church. With the first initial donation of $5,000.00 by Monsign

or Fulton J. Sheen, land was purchased on Hewitt Street. Monsignor Sheen chose the name Holy Infant of Prague and ground was broken on August 31, 1941. Holy Infant was dedicated on May 10, 1942 by Bishop Toolen. First resident Pastor was Rev. Joseph Adams who was appointed June 21, 1947. James Gallagher became Pastor in 1951 and built the Parish Hall. Charles Bordenca was named Pastor on February 3, 1967. Bordenca enlarged the Church during his time here. Holy Infant remained around 100 to 125 families from 1969 until 1987. The following priests served during that time up to the present:

Rev. Joseph F. Kula - June 26, 1969 - 1977

Rev. Desmond Regan - September 15, 1977 - 1979

Rev. Monsignor John Horgan - August 28, 1979 - 1981

Rev. Roland J. Inkel - September 1, 1981 - 1986

Rev. William Jones - January 31, 1986 - 1987

Rev. Patrick O'Donoghue - July 1, 1993 - 2004

Construction of a new Church, parish hall and classrooms was completed in 2006. The Church relocated from Hewitt Street to Gadsden Highway on September 23, 2006. The present membership of 900 families continues to grow.

Today we celebrate St. Barnabas (June 11), one of the great unsung heroes of the first century Church. Barnabas, a Levite, whose name means "son of encouragement,” was Paul's older spiritual brother, traveling companion and partner on his first missionary journey (Acts 13-15). St. Barnabas, pray for us.

Ascension Sunday Prayer
Heavenly Father,
As we celebrate the Ascension of Your Son, Jesus Christ,we lift our hearts to Heaven with gratitude and hope.
Lord Jesus, You ascended into glory, yet You remain with us always, guiding and strengthening us in faith.
Teach us to seek the things above and to trust in Your promises.
Fill us with the Holy Spirit so we may courageously share Your love, live according to Your will, and bring hope to those around us. Help us remember that our true home is with You in Heaven. May our lives reflect Your light, mercy, and truth every day.
Bless our families, protect our loved ones, and keep us faithful until the day we rejoice with You forever.
Amen.

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers around the world. 🌹🀍

Today, we thank God for every mother whose love reflects sacrifice, patience, gentleness, and quiet strength.

And as we celebrate mothers on earth, we also honor our Heavenly Mother, Mama Mary, who continues to guide us closer to Jesus through her love and prayers.

May every mother be blessed, comforted, and surrounded by grace today. πŸ™
