“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” - John 1:5

This week in Nguni and Kawala, we witnessed this truth in the most profound way.

The Darkness Was Real.

No access to clean water. Children with intestinal worms. Typhoid. Ameobiasis. Severe malnutrition. Chronic wounds that have festered for years. Undiagnosed cancers ravaging bodies. And beyond the physical suffering—a heavy spiritual darkness. Witchcraft. Bo***ge. Hopelessness.
This is what darkness looks like when it has a stronghold.

But Then the Light Came.

Over seven days:
∙ 1,915 patients received medical care
∙ 712 souls surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ
∙ One new church was birthed in Kawala

Today we commissioned Pastor Clinton and his wife to shepherd this new flock. They will lead a church in one of the most spiritually dark and physically challenging regions we’ve ever served. But they won’t do it alone.

And the Light Will Remain.

A borehole water well is being completed on this very property. Soon, clean water will flow where contaminated river water once brought disease and death. The church building that served as our medical clinic this week will now serve as a beacon of hope—a place where the Gospel is preached, disciples are made, and the Living Water is offered freely.

Physical healing and spiritual freedom. Clean water and eternal life.

This is what happens when the Light of Jesus breaks into darkness.

The darkness has not—and will not—overcome it.
Praise God for what He has done in Nguni and Kawala! Pray for Pastor Clinton and the 712 new believers. Pray that this light continues to shine brightly in a region that has known too much darkness for too long.

🙏 “In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.”

Kawala & Nguni Day 5 - "But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds… and took care of him.” Luke 10:33–34

Our final day of clinic and seeing God at work in Kenya! We are honored to care for patients, share Scripture, and point people to the healing and hope found in Christ alone.

Medications were given, prayers were lifted, and the love of Christ was shared. We came to bring health to the body and hope to the soul — and God has been faithful to work through every moment. Thank you, Lord, for what our eyes have seen and our hearts have witnessed.

As we conclude our five days of medical ministry, we do so with grateful hearts. We leave behind more than prescriptions — we leave prayers, relationships, and the message that Jesus heals, saves, and loves. The work continues, even when we go home.

This morning in our team devotional, we read Proverbs 3:5-10: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Then we met her.

An elderly woman walked into our Nguni clinic carrying years of pain—a wound in her foot that started as a simple puncture from a sharp piece of wood. But infection set in. It festered. It grew worse. For years, she’s lived with this open wound.

As she waited to be seen, she pulled out a bottle and took a drink. One of our team members smiled, thinking she’d mixed in a hydration powder like Liquid IV. Then he looked closer.
It was river water. Straight from the source. No boiling. No purification. Just desperate thirst met with the only water available after walking miles to reach us.

Here’s what struck me: She came anyway.
Despite the pain, despite the distance, despite having nothing but contaminated water to sustain her—she came believing we could help.

And here’s where Proverbs 3 cuts deep for those of us reading this: How often do we really trust God? We fill our calendars, control our schedules, make our plans, and leave little room for Him to actually work. We say we have faith, but we live like everything depends on us.

This woman? She has nothing by the world’s standards. But she had enough faith to walk here. Enough trust to seek help.

And God is moving powerfully in Nguni and Kawala. Each day we’ve witnessed over 100 souls surrender their lives to Jesus. Today—our last day at the medical clinic—we praise God for every healing, every testimony, every new believer.

But here’s what we know with absolute certainty: God’s work doesn’t end when our team leaves. He will continue to move in this community. He will provide for the woman with the wounded foot. He will meet the need for clean water. He will strengthen the new church being planted here.

We trust in faith that He will provide for every need they have—physical, spiritual, eternal.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding…” 🙏

Hands of care, hearts of love—sharing the compassion of Christ through medical ministry in Kenya.

For the first three days of ministry, we have treated 1,024 patients and have seen 444 souls accept Christ.

Breaking these numbers down a little further, we have observed a higher percentage of conversions to patients in Kawala. This might indicate an unreached people group. Regardless, we praise the Lord for this divine appointment.

Let me share a story from the Nguni clinic. An
eight year old girl came, and she could not see letters cleary enough to read; the words were blurry.

She had been kicked out of school due to the inability to see written words clearly enough to learn.

Our team member fitted her with a simple pair of reading glasses. It was life changing. The young girl could see the letters well enough to read. Her mother said "now she can go back to school."

Kawala & Nguni Day 3 -This was the day the Lord made, and we rejoiced and were glad in it. Despite the heat, despite the rogue wind gust, despite our fatigue, we were delighted to see what God accomplished.

Kawala is the new church site, and it is quite an adventure to get to it. It is not on Google maps like Mwingi and Nguni.

It is a 45 minute drive from Mwingi to Nguni. It is a one hour and 45 minute drive from Mwingi to Kawala.

The first half of the trip is on paved roads, but the last half is all dirt roads. We cross through four dried up river beds and often get stopped by herds of cattle, goats, or donkeys along the way.

We see several Baobab trees, Africa's iconic 'Tree of Life'.Baobab trees grow in 32 African countries. They can live for up to 5,000 years, reach up to 30 metres high and up to an enormous 50 metres in circumference. We see fields of corn and watermelon.

The surrounding landscape is actually beautiful as you see mountain ranges in all directions.

Through these medical clinics in Kenya, we seek to bring both healing and hope—meeting physical needs with compassion while pointing people to the greater hope found in Jesus Christ.

One of our team members shared a story about how a woman was touched by getting fitted with a pair of reading glasses. Her entire countenance changed as she could read more clearly.

This afternoon a sudden wind gust came through and tore down two of our tents. No one was injured, and we just carried on the work.

Enjoy the scenes of today.

Six hours. That’s how long it takes families in Nguni to walk to the nearest water source—a river that’s nearly dry. In this season, they’re digging shallow holes in the ground, collecting whatever water seeps up, and carrying it home. Most are not boiling it.

The result? Our medical team is treating patient after patient for GI illness, intestinal worms, and malnutrition in children. The physical need here is overwhelming.

But here’s what’s even more powerful: 233 patients treated today—and we’re still going. And while our doctors, nurses, and pharmacists are addressing physical suffering, our Agape pastors are sharing something that satisfies far deeper than any earthly water.

Through our prayer tent and nightly evangelistic crusades, people are encountering the Living Water—Jesus Christ. We’re watching men, women, and children give their lives to the Lord, discovering that He offers what no river or well ever could: forgiveness, hope, and eternal life.

This is what the Kingdom looks like—meeting desperate physical needs while pointing to the One who meets our greatest spiritual need. Our team is exhausted but running on joy. The harvest is plentiful, and God is faithful.

Pray for Nguni. Pray for the new believers. Pray for the sick to be healed, and pray for lasting transformation in this community.
The Kingdom is growing! 🙏

Kawala & Nguni Day 2 - Today was another beautiful day of serving our Savior in Kawala and Nguni. We are continually reminded that every moment, every interaction, and every act of care is an opportunity to reflect Christ’s love.

The clinic process looks much like what many experience back home—registration, triage, a visit with the doctor, diagnosis, and a prescription. Instead of a traditional pharmacy, patients receive their medications from our mobile pharmacy, allowing care to flow smoothly and efficiently.

This year, we were grateful to offer eye exams and provide reading glasses when needed, along with specialized wound care for those requiring extra attention. Each service is a reminder that tending to physical needs can open doors to minister to the heart.

What truly sets this clinic apart is counseling. After receiving their medication, each patient is invited to a counseling area where they hear the gospel and are lovingly encouraged to consider a life with Christ. It is here that healing reaches beyond the physical and into the eternal.

We also added a special touch this year—every prescription bag includes a word of encouragement and a Bible verse, written in Swahili, so patients leave not only with medicine, but with hope.

Today we celebrated two birthdays on our team, Erin Long and Anna Schappacher. In Kawala, the community sang “Happy Birthday,” filling the moment with joy and laughter.

Even the small details—like noticing new styles of scrubs—reminded us that God’s presence is in both the meaningful work and the simple joys of the day.

We conclude each day by holding an evangilistic crusade in the local village. A member from our team shares the Word of God at each of these events.

Kawala & Nguni Day 1- Today was a glorious one as we finally began what we came to do. After a time of devotion and breakfast, we headed out.

Everyone had to first stop in Nguni since we were transporting all the supplies in one vehicle. After a brief stop, Cliniic Team #1 remainded in Nguni, and Clinic Team #2 continued on to Kawala.

It was a very good first day as we saw a combined 275 patients.

Additionally, there is a crusade in the local village at the end of clinic. We did see many come forward to receive Christ.

With this good start, we ask for your prayers over each team as we endeavor to show the gospel and share the gospel to these beautiful people.

Another busy but prosperous day as we continue our ministry endeavor.

After a time of morning devotion and breakfast, we journeyed out into Nairobi to visit two sites before departing for Mwingi.

We stopped to see the site of the 1998 terrorist bombing of the U.S. Embassy on Nairobi. Over 220 people lost their lives including Americans.

Next we visited a 500- acre tea plantation just outside Nairobi. Such a beautiful landscape.

After lunch, we made our way to Mwingi arriving at 6:00 p.m. This will be our base of operation as we move out tomorrow to conduct clinics in two locations - Nguni and Kawala. Much of this evening was spent sorting and separting our supplies.

Please be in prayer as we move out tomorrow to show the gospel through compassionate care and to share the gospel openly.

Well, twenty-five short term missionaries arrived in Nairobi around 10:00 p.m. local time on Sunday evening. As we know, the arrival process is chaotic, stressful, and doesn't happen quickly.

But we praise the Lord, we made through customs without any problems. I want you to imagine the amount of luggage. There are 25 of us, each with two carry-on pieces and two checked pieces each. Do the math and you understand what we are dealing with.

Unfortunately there was one bag that didn't make, but it is enroute.

We all finally got in bed around 1:30 a.m., so continue to pray as we recover from the travel and move forward with the Lord's work.

Here we go - twenty-three members of our medical team traveling to Kenya this morning. We’ll serve communities with limited access to care, provide medical treatment, compassionate presence, and the hope of the Gospel.

Would you pause today and pray?
• For safe travels
• For wisdom and strength for every team member
• For open hearts and lasting transformation

We believe God goes before us, prepares every conversation, and works far beyond what we can see.
