25 years ago today was one of the darkest days in the history of the United States when multiple planes deliberately crashed into the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and a Pennsylvania field. We likely remember where we were on September 11, 2001. A generation later, we still bear the scars and wounds of that awful time. But during those bleakest moments, there were also glimmers of hope, faith, and compassion. Strangers helped each other to safety and comforted one another. Churches and neighbors opened their doors for prayer, protection, and shelter. Those moments of hope and faith are just as important to remember. On today's anniversary, let us remember those who lost their lives as a result of that day: The victims, the first responders who gave the ultimate sacrifice on that day, and survivors who succumbed in the aftermath. Pray for God’s mercy, comfort, peace, and healing for our nation and our world and may the Holy Cross remind us of God’s enduring love and call us to be instruments of peace, hope, and compassion. Amen
