There is supreme joy in serving Jesus. The journey is beautiful, heart-wrenching and, like Tahoe views, breathtaking. Having pastored for 20 years with 13 of them at church that God used Heather and I to start, the blessings have been innumerable. Pastoring is all about people. And I love people. I love the area that we have called home for 18 years. I love raising my kids in the mountains. I love knowing my neighbors. I love the lifelong friendships we have made. I love that my mom and dad and my brothers Colin, Tim and Kyle and their families were within reach, would watch our kids and prioritized spending Sunday night dinner with us each week. I love the businesses in which we would frequent and the overall heartbeat of Truckee. 13 years ago Heather and I set out from our church to begin the work of planting The Town Church.
And God has been gracious to us. Through starting in Ryan and Jenny Mcdermott’s living room, moving to the music shop (now Split Rock ... thanks Jake), to the Soul House, to CA 89 (we love ya Lisa) and then Glenshire Clubhouse (blessings Lori) we landed in the Pioneer Commerce Center with tons of help from Ciro and Katie Mancuso. They were our advocates with the town. And It’s not easy to start a church in Truckee and it’s even harder to navigate the town planning with all their hoops and obstacles. But God did it. And that’s just the building and getting into our own space. But what really made the Town Church special were the people. With hundreds of people flowing through the doors over the years we saw the Grace of God in our lives by giving us a true church family. By being fellow co-laborers in the Gospel alongside us for different seasons. And so, as I preached my final sermon this last Sunday at The Town Church, I was flooded with emotion. I was overwhelmed with Gratitude to God and humbled that God would allow me to be a part of His work. And it was His work.
And it will always be His work. And that work will continue on through his people, the church. And so with a heavy yet hopeful heart, Heather and I, as well as our children are closing this chapter of our lives in Truckee and opening a new one in Arizona. Please pray for us
