And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.
Romans 11:6
What makes a person good or bad? Is it what you do, your faith, or neither?
The Bible teaches us that a follower of Christ needs to surrender everything to grace. And thanks to the grace you receive, the desire to obey Jesus in everything needs to be the reason you do good things. God doesn’t see us as either good or bad, He just sees us as His own children. His love isn’t based on whether you deserve it, because none of us do. And even if you do the utmost to earn the salvation the Lord offers, you wouldn’t be able to.
The beautiful thing is that you don’t have to! That’s the point of God’s grace. It’s a gift, freely available to all. If we try to earn grace, we rob it of it’s power and invalidate the core of the gospel.
When you accept what He wants to give you and you get to know your heavenly Father, you’ll start to understand the magnitude of the life He offers you, it’ll change your life and the good works will follow. Not out of obligation, but out of devotion and as a way to give thanks.
So, surrender control in everything to the Lord. He promised Paul that His grace would be enough, and the same goes for you. You don’t need to be perfect to be a child of God. On the contrary, by showing your vulnerabilities and admitting your faults, the miraculous nature of His salvation is revealed all the more and He will get the glory He is due. But more importantly, your relationship with Him will deepen and your understanding of Him will grow. And so will your love for the One whose grace gave you a whole new life.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for Your grace. You know I can’t earn it on my own, and I don’t have to. Help me to surrender to You completely, so Your power will be made perfect in me and You’ll be glorified and receive all the honor. Amen.
