Malachi Barton stepped onto the stage at Variety’s Power of Young Hollywood event to receive the Rising Star Award.

He is only 19 and already building a name in Hollywood.

But when it was time to speak, Barton did not make the moment only about himself.

He thanked his parents for raising him in a home where God was at the center. He said they taught him that success is about more than awards and headlines.

Then he ended his speech with two simple words.

“Thank you, Jesus.”

That kind of moment matters. Young stars are often told to build their own name. Barton used his platform to point beyond himself and give thanks to Christ.

Christian worship leader Matt Redman has challenged believers to remember what worship is ultimately about God, not us. Having spent decades writing and leading worship, Redman has spoken about the danger of allowing worship music to become centered on our own emotions, experiences or desires rather than on the character and glory of God. Worship should ultimately focus on the One being worshiped. True worship doesn't make us the center of the song—it turns our hearts and attention toward Christ.
