Today’s Sermon At a Glance:
UNSUNG HEROES
of the New Testament
Ananias - ACTS 9:10-19
The sermon began with a discussion of Ananias, a lesser-known figure from the New Testament, pastor referenced a story about a Christian firefighter that rushed into a burning building to save a three year-old girl.
God's Calling and Transformation
Pastor Debbie discussed the biblical story of Saul's transformation into Paul, focusing on how God called Ananias to minister to him despite Paul’s violent past against Christians.
She emphasized that God sees potential in people that others may not see, using examples from Moses, Gideon, and Jeremiah to illustrate how ordinary individuals can serve extraordinary purposes when called by God.
Pastor highlighted that God's calling is not dependent on one's qualifications or past, but rather on God's vision for their future role.
Courage in Serving Difficult People
Pastor Debbie discussed the importance of courage and obedience when God calls us to serve difficult people. Paul was a difficult person, he persecuted Christians.
She emphasized that we should not judge others based on their current appearance or behavior, we may be missing out on God's plan for them. Pastor challenged the congregation to identify their own "Saul" - a person God is asking them to help or accept - and to be willing to obey even when it seems difficult or unnecessary.
What if that firefighter did not risk going into a burning building to save that three year-old girl? Who knows what that girl grew up to be.
Pastor concluded by praying for the congregation to have the courage to follow God's calling and understand the potential impact of their obedience.
Paul became an evangelist, a church planter and wrote many of the books of the New Testament.
Be courageous, and look for who God is placing in your path and telling you to speak Jesus to them!
