Posting a new, definitely not AI post each week, until we raise enough money to hire a real live person who isn't me to do marketing. Or until we get volunteers to do it.

Let's talk about Hestia's Hearth and Home Thrift. It's our thrift store - online for now, but working on a brick&mortar space, because we need places like thrift stores where we can know our money isn't going to run charities that wouldn't help our community members. It keeps things out of landfills, helps people save money, and will fund a physical space for our organization and our community, along with providing for other charity work. We have winter coats, lunch boxes, purses, candle holders, games, and a ton of other stuff either listed on the site or in bins in my living room waiting for me to get with the program and get them listed. Look, I know that a lot of corners of the internet are really anti-AI right now - particularly the Pagan community, where people are boycotting events and deplatforming presenters. I get it (though I wish there was more nuance in the discussions). Thing is, though, having seen the state of our community's support for any sort of business or organization, I'm not actually convinced that threatening withdrawl of support makes any difference, because most people aren't supporting their local businesses and organizations to begin with.

Every week I'm going to put together a new post, that's definitely not AI (this one is my own photos), until we either get enough support to have someone besides me doing it (because I actually can't do everything) or until our reach drops so much that I realize that AI is the only option.

Spiral Moon TV - we're on Roku and FireTV, and on the web. We're free, but we can offer pay per view shows if someone has something like a class they want to do on TV and get paid for it. We're always looking for new content. You should check us out.

Real live marketing experts and real live artists cost money, and Spiral Moon would need more paying members to make that happen (along with a bunch of other things we can't do without funding).

After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to cancel Detroit Pagan Pride this year.

Many of our close friends are aware that my family has been navigating several significant challenges behind the scenes. If you don't know the details, please know that I appreciate your understanding and respect for our privacy. If you have questions or concerns, you're welcome to reach out to me privately.

One thing this experience has reinforced is that larger community events cannot be sustained by just a handful of people. If we want to continue having events like Pagan Pride—and expand opportunities for the Pagan community in southeast Michigan—we need more volunteers who are willing to help plan, organize, and run them.

The good news is that you don't need previous event experience. We can provide training and guidance; what we need most are people who are willing to contribute their time and energy.

We have ideas and plans for several community events throughout the year, but we simply don't have enough people to make them happen.

Have you been looking for a way to meet Pagans in southeast Michigan? Pagan Pride is your opportunity, and it's coming to the Hazel Park community center in August!

Join us for a free day of Pagan community - meet people, learn some things, shop with our vendors. We'll have lunch (free, but donations gratefully accepted - let us know ahead of time if you have food restrictions) and kids activities as well. Bring donations for Pagans in Need and find out about other community events and resources.

We've still got space for a few more vendors and a few more presenters. And lots of space for volunteers and attendees!

Some of you know that my daughter is a big fan of thrifting. Every Saturday she and I go on an "adventure" as she calls it, typically hitting 2-5 thrift stores within a couple hours' drive of our house, rotating shops each week. She goes with her dad another day during the week, and sometimes convinces one of her caregivers to take her another day.

She has a collection and a list of things she is on the hunt for, and I appreciate the lower prices and the fact that thrift shops benefit the environment and keep things out of landfills.

Most of these shops are run by Christian churches. They play Christian music, and the kids' book sections, which are among her favorite things to peruse, often have Christian books - the photo here was taken last weekend, and you can see a number of obviously Christian kids books. We rarely find mythology books, and we've never found a witchy kids book, even at the secular shops.

They are happy to take our money. But if we were in need and went to the charities that are funded by these shops, the likelihood of us getting help, because of who we are, is small. And we have friends and family who've definitely had that experience. Which leaves me feeling some sort of way about shopping there or donating to these places.

That's a huge part of why we started Hestia's - we want our community to have a space to donate things they're not using, in a way that supports our community (and doesn't leave people out just because of who they are or what they look like).

So, go check out our items for sale (our site, https://hestiasthrift.shop and our ReRaiseIt site, where you can list things that you have in order to sell them and help us if you're not close enough to donate directly). Donate to help us fund a storage unit for now until we're closer to making the transition to an actual store front. Volunteer to help list items and/or to help ship items.
