First Baptist Church exists to passionately promote the glory of God’s name through the extension of Christ’s Lordship in the New Testament church throughout the world (Rom 1:1–5; Phil 2:5–11; Matt 28:19–20) via the evangelization of the lost, the edification of the saved, the establishment of vital churches, and the expansion of God’s salvific rule over the people groups of all nations (1 Cor 1:1

7; Col 1:28–29; Rom 12:4–8): “That the Word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored” (ESV 2 Thess 3:1).

God Made Both

“So man, or as we would use the term today, mankind or humanity, man is created male and female. There’s not multiple genders beyond that, but they are distinct from one another, though equally made in the image of God.”

Scripture for Every Believer

Some New Testament letters address very specific situations and even name individual people, but Ephesians is the kind of letter you could hand to any believer and say, “This is for you.”

It speaks to the church universal—all the saints throughout the entire church age—so that Peter, James, and John are, in that sense, your fellow church members in the one body of Christ.

Though they are now in heaven and we await joining them when Christ calls us to Himself, we still belong to the same Church of Christ together.

Alongside this universal reality, there is also the historical church on earth right now, made up of all believers presently alive, and then the many individual local congregations.

Ephesians was originally written to saints in and around Ephesus and likely circulated regionally, but its teaching clearly extends to all churches.

The very nature of the letter shows that it is Scripture for every believer, in every place, in every generation.

As we begin our study of Ephesians, we see Paul writing as an apostle to specific saints there, but also, by the Spirit, to saints everywhere.

Churches may worry about staying “relevant,” but God’s Word is timeless, proclaiming eternal life and our shared identity in Christ, and it remains just as relevant to us today as it was to the first readers.

God's Opinion Over Man's

“As I look at you, as you look at one another, as you look at me, we can think of whatever our flaws may be and whatever we're still struggling with. But the power of sin has been broken, and we'll make progress in time. That we are at least definitively holy in the eyes of God. We are holy ones. We are saints.”
