Support the Preservation of Pleasant Hill Cemetery
Established in 1842
A Treasured Piece of Pike County’s History
Since 1842, Pleasant Hill Cemetery has stood as a sacred resting place for generations of Pike County residents, preserving the stories of families whose names are woven into the fabric of our community. This historic burial ground includes early pioneer families such as Senn, Harris, Lunsford, Morgan, Reeves, Barron, Peacock, Rolling, Dunn, Sessions, Faulkner, Ward, Williford, McVay, and Powell — names that reflect the deep roots and shared heritage of the area. In many of its oldest sections, graves are marked only by simple rocks, a humble testament to our forebears and the passage of time.
Historic cemeteries like Pleasant Hill are not just places of burial — they are outdoor archives of community history. The Alabama Historical Commission’s Cemetery Program highlights that well-preserved cemeteries provide remarkable opportunities to study settlement patterns, family lineages, cultural traditions, and craftsmanship, and they play a vital role in honoring the lives of those who shaped our region.
In Pike County alone, there are hundreds of historic cemeteries, and local organizations like the Pike County Historical, Genealogical & Preservation Society are actively working to document, protect, and celebrate these important community assets. Their efforts reflect a broader recognition that cemeteries are valuable historical resources — ones that help us connect with the people and stories of generations past.
