Our final day started with a various assortment of breakfast foods including donuts provided by Brenda. Our devotional this morning was about the steps to detoxing our souls (Galatians 5:16-21, Romans 6:12-14, James 1:14-15, Ephesians 5:1-2, Psalm 1:1-3, Galatians 6:6-10, Matthew 5:13-16, Ephesians 6:10-20, Philippians 4:8-9, and Philippians 3:12-16). We then went outside to glue mulch and decorate the pergola in the prayer garden. We spread out the rest of the mulch and river rocks around the landscape of the church. Some of the guys did more work fixing the structure of the playground. The afternoon devotional today was about loving unhealthy people without getting sick (1 Peter 4:10, Hebrews 6:1, 1 Corinthians 16:19-20, Proverbs 4:23, and Galatians 5:14-15) and managing toxic relationships (John 2:23-24, Matthew 16:23, and Psalm 101:2-6).
After lunch, we worked with Dale Bliss who runs Advantage Housing, which is a nonprofit organization who gives homes to people who are homeless or struggling. With him we moved pallets of random items that are no longer needed, cleaned up the outside area of the warehouse, and Phillip got to drive the forklift (he was having the time of his life!) After returning to our “home” for the week and washing up, we packed up the van and headed home.
This week was a great opportunity to spread our servitude to others who needed support. We were able to help Maple Grove Community Church prepare for General Conference in August, do some maintenance around North Salem Church of God, and allow Dale to focus more on the “urgent” work and less of the “important” work. As people we also learned the importance of pushing through obstacles like questions of worth and toxicity. I look forward to next year and hope to see more people join us to strengthen our faiths, work hard, and introduce others to the sheer power of God working through us. Also stay posted to see an article about SYCM in 🧐 the Progress Journal.

Last day of mission trip. More work at Maple Grove than the afternoon with Dale Bliss and Advantage Housing.

Today we did some more work at Maple Grove Community Church. Our morning devotional was about what God needs to strip away from us in order to be filled by Him (Philippians 3:10-11). We finished mulching the prayer garden, spray painted a toy wagon, placed landscaping fabric, moved stuff around at the playground, trimmed a tree, built a cabinet for the church’s entryway, put a curtain up, and trimmed bushes. We also had the amazing opportunity to work with Foster the Need, which is a boutique within the church that collects new clothes to distribute to foster families that need some support. Today we helped to organize their storage closet and stock their “showroom.”
After sharing a lunch of cold meat sandwiches, we had our lunch devotional about being ready to move and do other things. We looked at Joshua 3-5 which outlines the importance of meeting with God daily, sanctifying ourselves, and creating a better balance to our spiritual diets.
In the afternoon we finished power washing rocks for the prayer garden, finished organizing the Foster in Need closet, and returned to Cross America to pack more envelopes with crosses to fill every household with the Lord’s Spirit. We finished our night with some board games, basketball, a dinner of tacos/nachos, and a group discussion about our hopes for next year’s mission trip.

We started this morning early with a devotion about knowing your value. We learned that no matter what happens in our lives, God does not see us any less than what He made us to be (Exodus 19:5-5).
Today we traveled to North Salem Church of God in Plymouth, Indiana. We cut down a tree, trimmed down bushes, cleaned off their sign and replaced it with the message, “Rejoice in the Lord always. Philippians 4:4,” and did some maintenance around the church. They treated us to a lunch of pizza and cheesecake. We then went back to work cleaning up brush, washing the windows, and vacuuming the sanctuary. Unfortunately, the rain started building too much so we had to leave a couple projects unfinished. We had our devotional during the rain about winning with faith and the importance of listening to those that we may be leading.
We drove home, played some card games, and then made burgers (thank you, Michael!) After dinner, Talon Paul took us out to play laser tag (thank you!) Afterwards, we had our devotional where we discussed how to be connected as a body of Christ. We mainly looked at the passage 1 Corinthians 12:12-31, which describes how we are all created for a purpose and we all need to work together to welcome more people into the Kingdom. We also discussed Psalm 141:1-5, which explains how we must watch what we say and do because our words and actions are powerful.
