Operating in Excellence
-from the Leadership Log-
As we’ve moved into a new season with a new undertaking in our 320 publishing outreach, I’ve had to take a look at some things as a leader to ensure we are operating as efficiently as possible. I am a big believer in always taking time to re-evaluate the inner workings that directly impact my ability to minister in the fullness that God has assigned me to.
While God is in the visual design of a “thing” He is also in the functionality of that “thing.”
I say often, “Practical is still spiritual.”
Nehemiah had to do many “practical, and functional” things to rebuild the wall, rightly.
Even within ministry, functionality is important for fruitfulness. It cannot be disregarded.
The ability to flow freely with the Spirit is critical as He moves among the people but it’s also important to flow well with infrastructure, schedules, and consistent roadmaps to maintain well the harvest that He is bringing in.
Often Christ has me step back to simplify what might have gotten too complicated, too cumbersome, and is now creating unnecessary stressors for me as a leader.
✅ Where am I inconsistent in a thing, and why?
✅ Do I have gaps in my communication spaces causing anything to fall through the cracks where I am unable to minister fully and fruitfully?
✅ Am I disjointed in that which Christ has asked me to accomplish? Too spread out, or spread too thin?
✅ Is my mind too full where the Spirit is now muffled in our communication language together?
Functionality of ministry when you’ve been tasked with a multifaceted vision is a necessity to keep an eye on.
While the Lord does not always allow my past life in business to influence all things in ministry, He does point out from time to time what He allowed me to learn there to be able to handle the day to day tasks of running a busy ministry.
Am I freely able to focus on the work geared to hearts in need and rest well knowing that I’ve got a good handle on the “nuts and bolts” because I am able to function in a good, and Godly way.
Excellence in the things of God also applies to the inner workings of that which He has entrusted to us.
God has entrusted some within the body to be wonderful Kingdom troubleshooters, streamliners, and effective builders so that Kingdom work can be as seamless as possible which in turn allows the Spirit of God to stay the primary focus and the transformation of people through Christ to remain the main mission.
It is never a bad time, in my opinion, to re-evaluate, re-survey, re-pray into, and re-direct when needed.
There are often many moving puzzle pieces to accomplishing what God is asking of us.
And every single puzzle piece needs to be thoughtfully placed.
If one piece is out of place, missing, or in the wrong place, there will be a breach in my wall. This scripture comes to mind:
For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? (Luke 14:28)
Nehemiah spent ample time viewing the broken walls of Jerusalem before beginning to build.
He did what we call here good, and Godly, “recon.”
Then He went to work to put the necessary things in place so He could start, and finish, what God was calling Him to do.
It has been critical for me to regularly re-evaluate what I am doing, and why.
First, and foremost, am I still in alignment with the Lord’s heart in any given season?
And it has been also critical that I regularly re-evaluate “how” I am operating so that I can then straighten any crooked places and smooth out any rough patches.
Then I can rest well knowing operations are smooth so that I can focus all of my heart and mind on the needs of the people.
In which case I can feel that “it is well with my soul” and that I am doing my absolute best to operate in excellence in every area entrusted to me.
