We Refresh Our Resistance this Pride Season

June is Pride month, and Zion’s begins the observance with a Pride worship service at 10 a.m. on Sunday, June 7, which will be followed by our First Sunday Potluck and special Pride celebration.

This event allows us to reflect upon how far we have come in difficult times while reminding ourselves that we need to keep moving toward the goal of true inclusion. As a Reconciling in Christ faith community, we are the living embodiment of hope for LGBTQIA+ full inclusion and equity.

We are living in a time when our society is less affirming and inclusive of those who are marginalized. As such, we are called to respond with intention, faith, and love. When we work together for justice then both communities and their people are stronger.

This Pride season, we step forward — as allies, collaborators, and co-conspirators in the Gospel — to boldly proclaim God’s inclusive love for all. The RIC Pride month theme invites us into a fuller, more faithful expression of resistance — one that is grounded not only in action, but also in spirit:

--Lament for the harm and injustice that persist

--Foundation in the enduring truth of God’s expansive love

--Joy that celebrates the beauty and gifts of LGBTQIA+ lives

--Courage to continue showing up, speaking out, and building
a more just church and world

We need all of these elements in our lives and in our worship. Together, they shape a resistance that is not only responsive, but also is deeply rooted, life-giving, and transformative.

Zion’s Lutheran Church, 510 Pine Street in Trinidad CO will observe Reconciling in Christ (RIC) Sunday on Jan. 25 with 10 a.m. worship followed by lunch and fellowship time. All are welcome to join us.

Reconciling in Christ is a public way for faith communities to see, name, celebrate, and advocate for people of every race & culture, age & ability, family structure & economic status, and every sexual orientation, gender identity, & gender expression.

The RIC worship celebration allows Zion’s to share our belief that all of us are children of God, saved by grace. Zion’s Lutheran wants people who are looking for a church home or simply a place to worship to know that when Zion’s claims everyone is welcome, we mean everyone.

At Zion’s, we support and love our siblings in Christ. We embrace the uniqueness of every individual and respect their dignity and worth, for all are created in the image of God. We believe that the Gospel is built upon a foundation of diversity. We know that the Creator gifted us a universe infused with beautiful diversity. We have experienced that the Blessed Community is strongest and most faithful to Jesus when we invite everyone to the table.
In November 2024 Zion’s members reinforced this commitment by voting to become a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) church partner, as one of almost 1,200 congregations in Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) that are a part of and support this ministry.

Our RIC designation helps communicate to visitors and potential members that Zion’s truly is a church with heart!

Zion's Lutheran is offering a Blue Christmas service for the entire Trinidad area at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 21 in the sanctuary, 510 Pine Street. Zion’s invites all who desire to honor their losses and lift up their concerns in a safe and sacred space.

The worship service is a quiet and contemplative experience that respects those who are walking through grief and struggling with loss and sadness. This year, it will feature music and meditation by Jeff Wahl.

As with all worship services at Zion’s, you do not have to be a member to participate nor is there any cost to attend. While the service represents western Christianity, attendees need not have any particular religious affiliation to participate.
