Sudan Commitee of the Diocese of New Jersey

Sudan Commitee of the Diocese of New Jersey The page of the Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey's Committee on Sudan.

The committee was formed to bring awareness of the crisis in Darfur, and is now hosts African Evensongs, Retreats, and is currently working to sponsor two Sudanese men through Seminary. We started as a witness against the genocide in the Darfur region of what is currently, Sudan, in the Fall of 2008 and broadened our witness to include both Sudan and the new nation of South Sudan; The Episcopal Church of Sudan services both nations. South Sudan attained its independence on July 9, 2011 and became the 193rd member state of the United Nations on July 14. Violence, conflict and genocide continue in both Darfur and South Sudan, particularly along the disputed Nuba Mountain regions along the Sudan/South Sudan Border. Our hope lies in the knowledge that, through the grace of God peace and justice are possible and the world rejoices in the birth of the new nation of South Sudan.
