The reconciliation work of Friends Church Peace Team in Turbo in 2008 received recognition from the National Council of Churches. NCC sent representatives to observe the work and to learn the model in order to apply it in other locations. FCPT also took out a newspaper ad with their findings to help all Kenyans grow closer to living peacefully once again.

In 2007, the Friends Church Peace Team recognized a need for peace work in Kenya in the wake of post-election violence. Neighbor had turned against neighbor, and by 2008, community members were being asked to return to their homes—to live again among people who might have destroyed their animals and property. FCPT focused on the Turbo region. They began by redefining language: not victims and perpetrators, since all people felt victimized, but a “returning community” and a “receiving community” that would work together to build a single community for everyone. (2 Corinthians 5: 18-20)
