The Mountain Grove Missionary Baptist Church was founded in 1870. The chuch got its start in a house or brush harbor located on the left-hand side of Highway 25 approximately three miles north of Travelers Rest, SC in the Belleview Community. The owner of the land let the members use the building to hold church service and there were no lights or running water. Some years later, the church met in

a building on the other side of Highway 25 on an old road with a steep hill. In 1887, the members of the church were able to build a small church on the land where Mountain Grove Missionary Baptist Church is currently located.
