Trust. Dwell. Delight. Commit.

These action words in the first five verses of Psalm 37 completely surrender our hearts and make us pliable to the will and ways of our God.

When we look at the wicked and wonder how they prosper while the righteous suffer, we are reminded that His ways are not our ways. They are higher, greater, and broader than ours.

And because of these truths, we can do what verse 7 calls us to do: rest in Him.

Trust Him. Dwell with Him. Delight in Him. Commit your way to Him.

Then rest.

These truths from this chorus resonated deeply in my heart this morning as I meditated on God’s Word.

No matter how insignificant I may seem — OUR GOD IS GREATER.

No matter how weak I may be — OUR GOD IS STRONGER.

No matter how low I may feel — GOD, YOU ARE HIGHER THAN ANY OTHER.

No matter how sick I may become — OUR GOD IS HEALER.

No matter how completely powerless I may feel — AWESOME IN POWER IS OUR GOD.

What confidence we have today in OUR GOD!

David reminds us in Psalm 36 that sin is not merely a mistake—it is the absence of the fear of God. It is prideful, unwise boasting that believes it knows better than the Lord Himself.

And yet, in the face of mankind’s sin, God remains rich in mercy.

As sure as the sun rises and sets, as steady as the earth continues to turn, as faithful as the moon and stars shine in the night—God’s mercy is even more sure. His judgment still stands, but in mercy He withholds it for a season.

And when we truly see the mercy of God displayed in Christ, and the grace of God performed through Christ, we find refuge, abundance, delight, and life.

Sin blurs our view.
Mercy opens our eyes.

What a God—full of compassion, faithful in mercy, and abundant in grace.

🎼Great is Thy faithfulness
Great is Thy faithfulness
Morning by morning NEW MERCIES I see
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me🎼

Sin is a liar, a deceiver, and a destroyer. It flatters the mind while robbing the heart of joy and purpose. It sings softly while leading us toward failure. Sin is not only the problem of our lives; left unchecked, it becomes the path to our ruin.

But thankfully, we serve the great God who does not allow sin to have the final word.

He is full of compassion and mercy. He sees the sinfulness of our lives and answers with the remedy of His grace. He is everything we need.

In Psalm 36, David shows the sharp contrast between sin’s corruption and God’s lovingkindness. Then he cries, “Let not the foot of pride come against me…” because he knows how easily sin can overtake the heart.

It is the constant reminder of the Lord’s mercy that keeps our feet on the right path.

Sin may deceive, but God delivers.
Sin may destroy, but God restores.
Sin may accuse, but mercy answers.

As we contemplate the freedoms we enjoy today, we cannot help but reflect on the tremendous cost many paid so we could experience them. Men and women who willingly stood brave and courageous in the face of danger, many giving their lives so that others might know life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

What a sobering reminder that freedom is never free. Behind every flag waving in the breeze is a story of sacrifice, service, and selflessness.

Today we honor and remember those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. May we never take lightly the blessings we have been given because of their sacrifice.

This past week you have faced an enemy. Maybe that enemy has been yourself, or maybe it has been others whom our common enemy, the devil, is using against you. Either way, it can feel as if they are on every side — rallying against you and against your success.

David felt this way in Psalm 35. He speaks of those who devise evil plans against him and desire nothing less than his destruction. Yet David understood that apart from God, his chances of overcoming his enemies were zero to none. So he confidently declared that God was his salvation and deliverer.

David’s confidence came from experience — lions and bears slain, giants defeated, and the assurance of being anointed by God as king over His people.

Today, our confidence in God’s deliverance comes from an old rugged cross, an empty grave, and the promise that He will never leave us nor forsake us. He is still the God who fights our battles.

So today, declare His righteousness and sing His praise all day long!

What a powerful plea that opens Psalm 35. David is declaring that those who contend with him contend against God, and those who fight with him fight against God. What assurance in the God who fights our battles.

David’s cause had likely been brought before many before he ever reached this place, yet what a blessing to know his advocacy did not rest in earthly strength or even among his mightiest men, but in the Maker of heaven and earth. God would not only take David’s case, but would go above and beyond to defend him and go before him in battle.

How much greater is this truth for us in Jesus Christ. God has proven Himself the greatest Advocate by contending with our sin through His Son and winning the victory on our behalf at Calvary. And if God fought the greatest battle for our eternal souls, what will He not fight for on behalf of His children?

Today begin with a steadfast heart and mind, asking God to contend against every person, place, thought, temptation, and circumstance that rises against you. The battle is not yours alone — the Lord fights for His people.

Another beautiful hymn of remembrance to ponder while meditating on Psalm 34. A constant & confident reminder - surely means only!

🎼He restoreth my soul when I'm weary,
He giveth me strength day by day,
He leads me beside the still waters,
He guards me each step of the way.🎼

🎼Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days, all the days of my life
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days, all the days of my life.🎼
