What Settles your Spirit?

These are arguably the most controversial words that Jesus spoke while he was here on this earth. The undertone is so powerful if u take the time to unpack it.. But the actual words would send shockwaves that are still reverberating throughout society to this day. Everyone wants to find their own way.. We live in a society that teaches free thinking but this mentality drives independence and ultimately division. But Jesus didn’t want us to be independent free thinkers as it pertains to our humanity. Sure in your profession or in your educational endeavors be as creative and intelligent as you possibly can.. But in your humanity be like minded… You see this passage gives us a small glimpse of what it means to be united.. Because if we all could agree that this one statement is what binds us all together as a society of people, how much stronger would our humanity be? Jesus gives us three things that ultimately define our existence as a collective.
His words “The Way”, giving us clear direction in our journey through life. “The Truth”, allowing for our doubts and fears to be settled in one solid answer. And “The Life”, which is what this Journey is all about.
But the Devil is so crafty as he places so many different ways and so much perversion of truth and so many obstacles in life, that we find ourselves often wandering in the literal wilderness of life, looking for the things that can only be solidified in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.. I don’t know about you but if there is anything that I’ve learned in my 55 years of life on this planet. It is that if you get these three things settled in your spirit and etched in your mind.. Then there is very little that will happen in your life’s journey that will throw you off of our line. Jesus said that there is a wide path and a narrow path ( Matthew 7:13). And undoubtedly I believe that this very statement is what divides those two paths. Because if you’re unsure of where you’re going you will accept someone else’s bad directions.
And if you don’t have an idea of what is True for your life you will accept someone else’s version of the truth. And if you are confused about the purpose of your life and why you were created , then you will allow someone or something to guide your steps. And ultimately those three things are the recipe for destruction.. Jesus said I am The WAY, The TRUTH and The LIFE. And in those three things there is no wiggle room. If we can wrap our minds around this one concept and turn from the idea of individualism of free thinking as it pertains to our human experience.. We would be so much better for and to our fellow man. And there would be so much room for dialogue as to why we are here and what Jesus wanted for his creation. I believe that the keys to a good God centered life is contained in these three words that Jesus gave us in this passage. And I’m so glad that he did. Thank you Jesus for proving The way. That I might walk in the Truth of that Way and be settled in the very Life that it provides In Jesus name, can anybody say Amen to that this morning? Thank you Jesus for always giving me the opportunity to do things your Way. That I might walk in your ways and succeed in your truth and be settled in the life that you died for me to have.. Where Does Wisdom come from?

It is something that is missing from our society. Something that is so important to our humanity But something that alludes us and in the sense that we become far less than what God has created us to be..

What I mean by that is this… Knowledge without wisdom is just information. What you do with that information is solely based on your ability to process that information and then apply that information to your situation or circumstance in the most appropriate manner possible.

The problem with this line of thought is that we end up with something that we call trial and error reasoning. Meaning if at first you don’t succeed try it a different way.. Now that is how alot of us learned. It wasn’t the most efficient or effective way but unfortunately it was all that we had.. Credit to my first grade teacher for giving me that little tidbit of information that followed me through my life and often reminded me to never give up on a project or anything that I wanted for my life..
But this verse sheds some light on the importance of wisdom. And brings clarity to the idea of where it comes from and why we need it… Now I skipped the 14th verse through the 16th verse, Because those verses show us what happens when we lack the wisdom we need.
In those passages we see words like bitter, selfish and unspiritual. Which are words that clearly show us that God is not in that part of the process… But I wanted to draw your attention to the positive things of this passage so that we can clearly see first: where wisdom comes from.. and most importantly, how we recognize true wisdom..
So often we find ourselves with no real wise voice to turn to. And when that happens we feel like we’re being forced to figure it out on our own.. But This passage sheds a bright light on this issue for us in that true wisdom that comes from Heaven bears much fruit or in layman’s terms you can see it on the life of the bearer.
So many people live to direct and guide others.. But in large part their motive is money… Men and women alike earn a six figure salary and spend their working hours talking to clients about the things that make them human. But most of these ideologies have been derived from research done on other human beings and groups that have derived some kind of social construct to say that this is the way the human mind and the human experience should go.. With that information we are given a list of possible explanations and a few possible answers to how we need to pivot in an effort to point our lives in a different or better direction..
Now the reason this has any relevance to life is because there is a void in EVERYONE that in its rawest form NEEDS VALIDATION.. God placed this in us to give us a path back to him.. Now with this void we are often given to our sinful indulgence so that we are directed to addictions of some sort that numb the longing and help us to block out the desire for something of greater value. In most cases being told that this is the reason and this is the fix and if this doesn’t work for you there must be some sort of mental illness or issue that we need to take a deeper dive into but the information we gave you is definitely not the issue. Or spend some more money and I’ll give u a different thing that most likely won’t work..

But again we see that Godly Wisdom is what we’re searching for and without it we are given over to our sinful indulgence fueled by our earthly desires.. Essentially when wisdom
Comes from the wrong place it clearly yields the wrong fruit.. Look at what James says about it just a few verses earlier.
James‬ ‭3‬:‭15‬ ‭
“Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.”

Now the earthly and unspiritual part is bad but the demonic part is debilitating.. If we understand the demonic we see that it’s not only negative, but it’s life altering in most cases..

Wisdom is such an essential part of life. Without it we wander.. James who seems to be the authority on this issue of Wisdom gave us so much information about this subject that in part it’s difficult to miss if you’re looking in the pages of scripture.. Here in the first chapter of this book, James makes it clear where we get wisdom and how we get wisdom.. Look at his words:

James‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.”

See that.. Clear and concise.. Ask, Believe,Receive.. Somewhat like the rules of salvation if you think about it…

But God wants us to know that life without wisdom is fleeting .. James says it best in this passage..

James‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬
‭‭ “For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.”
Man thats just some reality for you right there.
Friends, Don’t throw your money away on Life coaches who have only experienced a quarter or so of life.. Their understanding of life is academic at best and void of the real challenges that life can throw at us.. But here is the real HEART of this matter.. God created each one of us for his good pleasure. He hand crafted you with a plan and a purpose and a destiny and you know what? It’s wasn’t done with any other persons path in mind.. Sure God will work it all together for good(Romans 8:28) The choices you make the people you choose and even the life decisions that you make, that sometimes seem like hurdles but in essence are only a product of our poor choices that produces those evil practices that James so gracefully warned us about..

But when we choose to follow Jesus. And we ask ‭‭with a believing heart for the wisdom to guide and direct our lifes journey.. There is a Harvest that comes to us and if I might add it’s so full of all of the things that God had planned for you in advance that we all would walk in our God given purpose.
Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭10‬
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Look I’m not saying that the wisdom of your parents and grandparents or even your relatives and and friends is not important.. Ideally if we listened to their advice most of us would have avoided most of our lifetime disappointments. Even that wisdom can be sent from heaven because what parent wants to lead you in the wrong direction( wait scratch that… there are some suspect parents out there).. But for the large majority I believe most parents and loved ones want what’s best for their children.. And probably the best thing they can do is give us the information about the potholes life might present to you.. My grandmother use to say I’m coming back up that same road you’re traveling and I’ve already been to the end and seen all the potholes.. Funny I used to think it was the ramblings of an old lady.. Now I know it was God giving me wisdom…

Friends prayerfully we are all on the road we want to be on. But if you’re wandering and trying to find clarity of life.. (or identify the potholes on your road) Look to Jesus. He is our help.. Life won’t always shout out the instructions or the warnings. But Jesus our Lord and Savior will always make our way straight. Can you receive that this morning.

When Jesus made this statement to his disciples it would seem that we have been given instruction to simply tell anyone and everyone about Jesus..
But in the world that we live in this is quite the impossible feat.. Most of us don’t even really know all of our immediate neighbors.. And even if we know some of them were not really quick to jump into a conversation about religion with them just on the basis of offense..
I remember once having a conversation about Jesus with one of my neighbors and within a few weeks he just up and moved… Now I’m not saying I forced him to move with that conversation, but what I’m saying is that the conversation made him a bit uncomfortable and since he moved and we are not personal friends I’m not real sure what he did with the conversation.
My point is that some will go to school to learn the Job of becoming a pastor, Because that’s what it is now, it’s a JOB! And then we will direct our congregants to Go and bring people to church…

But in this passage Jesus didn’t confuse the two.. Jesus even said to the end of the earth.. Now what I believe has been derived from that is witnessing and missions and sharing your Faith with people that you come
In contact with or with people you are tasked to reach..
But I believe what Jesus was saying is, Get the people closest to you and then let that spread.. I believe that’s why he gave us so much time to accomplish it.. At the end of this passage he says to the end of the age..

Now imagine if every parent would make sure their children knew Jesus. Not necessarily make them Christian’s but just give them the introduction and say, this guy is pretty significant.. And then while they are in your home and under your leadership you show them your relationship with Jesus and how it works for you.. That introduction is powerful.
And the statistics are amazing with regard to things that are cultivated in the home… But what’s more important is that The Apostle Paul told his spiritual son Timothy when he was speaking of the requirements of an overseer, Deacon or pastor. He gave some specifics that really puts the man in this place of leading his family well and instructing & guiding the children that God has given him and pointing them to Jesus. Look what Paul says.
1 Timothy‬ ‭3‬:‭4‬-‭5‬ ‭
“He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect. (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?)”

I like the words in parenthesis().. Because in the world we live in there are so many people busy leading our churches and their families are out of control.. Sure they show up on Sunday and smile for the paycheck but so many are in chaos.. Now when you ask how I can be sure.. Here is my response.. Just look at the immediate area around their life. their friendships and relationships outside of ministry.. How their kids move in space with other kids.. This will show you how they are being led and what the full picture looks like..

My point is this.. God started the family.. He made Adam and then gave him a wife.. They had children and the world grew from there.. But when sin entered the world something got lost in the translation. The first sibling rivalry ended in death and from there who knows what the dysfunction was.. But what I see in society now is that people don’t make Jesus a priority to their family.. And in most cases people don’t even prioritize Family.. Single mothers & serigate mothers in homosexual relationships men birthing babies and going to jail, or just leaving the mother to figure it out.. So
Much dysfunction of the family structure it is tuff to keep Jesus the main thing..

But if preachers would do their part.. In equipping men and women to be good stewards of family, and then the parents would transfer that to the children and so on and so forth, our world would be a better place… So where do we start I’m sure you ask…
From the beginning.. ‭‭We pray for restoration of the family we failed to disciple. We pray for our neighbors to ask us to give them a reason for the hope they see in us.. We pray for our extended family members that don’t know the love that is found in Christ Jesus. And we let that light shine in every way we can that they might see your good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven.. This process does not begin with getting it right. it begins with deciding to right the ship… I believe that the business of church has lost it’s way.. But I don’t believe that it has lost its leader.. Jesus will never give up on the church.. As long as there is one righteous person standing in the gap to say.. Hang on we’re working on this and we will get it right..

Jesus gave us a lot of specific instructions in his word. But because we’re mostly western educated we find ourselves rethinking the pages of scripture in the name of interpretation or study.. Jesus in no uncertain terms meant for us to interpret his words.. That’s why he sent us his Holy Spirit.. So that the words of this book would stir up the spirit that is in us and keep us moving in the proper direction. On the narrow path towards Jesus, The Way the Truth and the Life!! I believe this is the most powerful passage in the Bible… Not that the rest of the Bible isn’t equally as important. But if you don’t get this one, well the rest is really tuff to digest.. But I love this picture as it relates to this passage.. That God was revealing the light to the world in this way which would later define his existence as Jesus and further solidify our relationship with God.
That Jesus when he would show up as light and the darkness would not over come the light.. In other words.. What God spoke into existence in the beginning would be the saving Grace for all humanity in the end!! Can you wrap your mind around that right now!!! Man what a mighty God we serve. Who in the beginning saw the end and created something that would ultimately be the most significant thing for the restoration of the world…
Thank you Jesus for providing the light. That we all might walk in it so that this dark world doesn’t always seem so scary.

There comes a time for everyone as we walk down this corridor called life, that we begin to take inventory of what we’re looking for, what we’re working for and ultimately what we need for this journey. And this passage is a wonderful reminder that in all of life’s ups and down there is one constant that we can always count on no matter what the circumstance.. God has given us some great and precious promises that allow us the opportunity to lean on him when life seems a bit unstable. But if we’re being honest most of us are not really interested in seeking the face of our savior when we’re doing good.. When everything is working out, when all of the ends are lining up and meeting perfectly.. No we pat ourselves on the back and compliment ourselves for the effort and the work that we have done that has created this place of success and then we stand back
and appreciate our masterpiece.. But this passage says to seek his face always.. And what’s interesting is that just a few verses above this one the author of this passage encourages us to praise God for what he has done and then remember him for what he will do.. look at this passage:

1 Chronicles‬ ‭16‬:‭8‬-‭9‬ ‭
“Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.”

Friends we have been told that our life’s journey will be filled with ups and downs.. But what I see in this passage is that life can do what life will often do, but if we seek our refuge in the Lord, Our life will always seem to have substance. And our paths won’t always seem cluttered. I believe that David understood far more than what we are able to see as we read the Bible and see the life of David with our judgmental eyes and cluttered hearts.. But if we would only take a moment to see the words that David laments in so many of his writings that give us a clear understanding of a man with a Heart for The Lord.. What is always clear to me is that This world will do what it will.. But our Savior has mapped out a path for the righteous that is far better than that of the one who listen to the lies of the enemy and wrestles and struggles with life’s uncertainties with the misunderstanding that God needs to do something in every moment of every situation that we encounter.
But if we’re able to see simply through the life of David that even In his sufferings, and his hardships and yes even in his pain. David found a place to worship and praise and remember to acknowledge that the Lord was with him and that whatever he went through was better than what was meant for him.. Can anyone see that today.. Man my Mama use to say God has a Plan, God always HAD a plan!!!! I remember hearing her say that and in my young unconscious mind I would say “what does that mean”? Ohhh but I understand now! And my prayer for you is that you
would learn to trust his process and learn to depend on his promises as you navigate the corridors of life and tackle the challenges and obstacles that this world will often present to you. Knowing full well that Gods plan is always better than anything you have planed

This world is a big place or as it would seem.. And this command given by Jesus himself would look like an impossible task for each individual believer.. But I think that what gets lost in this translation wether you read it in the voice of Mark16:15 or Matthew 28:19 or Luke 14:23
or even Acts 1 verses 7-8 where the charge is bit different but the witness is the same.. It would seem that most of us if we’re being honest resort to, That’s not my job..

We look at the pioneers of our faith like Oral Roberts, and Billy Graham and even Charles Stanley who by their own rights executed this charge to an awesome degree..
But the reality is that there were only 11 men in that meeting with Jesus and those eleven men clearly could not establish this mission in itself just between the 11 of them..

But God had a plan for humanity. And by the grace of his spirit and the placement of his Word we are now all included in that number to GO!!! But not into all of the earth.. But that on the day of Pentecost God set his plan in motion.. Sending the different people out to their own kind to tell their own people about Jesus.. And finally God gave us his spirit. That the spirit of God might fill our hearts and minds and overflow into our families and trickle down onto our neighbors and further establish its boundaries in our neighborhoods and eventually cover the entire earth.. But it begins with You..
Yes You, And Me.. When I say this I’m talking to every believer that considers themselves a child of our Savior Jesus Christ. The one who gave us the charge to preach his story to all of humanity.. It begins with YOU.. And ME.. And our Spouses and our children and as we move and allow our Love light to shine and fill the room and inhabit the earth and subdue it. Bringing everything under the rule and authority of Christ who Gave himself up for us all.. Everyone in that place in the picture that is enormous in size but rather small in perspective..

You see we can reach millions from one spot with our current technological advancements. And by and large we can give millions who are in places that we can’t reach with a person the same Gosple message as we can give to our Neighbor.. But we have to be willing to have an attitude that it begins with
ME!! And in my space or my mission field I will make sure that I fill my space with the light that God has placed in me, and that God has provided for everyone.
And as we recognize that this command begins with ME we also take responsibility for those around us who are hurting and suffering and unwilling to ask for help.. Because we live in a world that passes shame and guilt on to those who don’t understand how to deal with it and we refuse to preach Grace and Mercy although we know it’s what God wanted us to preach…
We say stop abording babies instead of instructing us to start Loving our babies so that they become responsible adults who don’t get caught in those decision making processes that ultimately drive the decision the other way.. That our boys understand that responsible men don’t make babies before they’re ready to raise them. And responsible women don’t lay down with men who have not taken responsibility for them before they give birth to a child.. That we would be that Loving humanity that this command demands us to be. That we would not have to point fingers at people and force shame and guilt on people in an effort to force them into something that God has already invited them to participate in.. But not under compulsion, Because God wants us to give of ourselves cheerfully and freely..
Can you receive that this morning? Man I know I can.. Thank you Jesus for your command for me to GO!! That my love light might be bright enough to allow one person to experience the Love that you have for them through me.. In Jesus Name!!

Hello 2025!!!

I Love this verse today. And it is so fitting as we walk into a New Year. It may not look New.. It may not feel New. But if you are a follower of Jesus, you can rest assured that God is doing something NEW.. And even if you are not a believer And you are looking for something to grab onto for this New year, This verse has all of the Hope that you need to walk you through this New Year.. And the conclusion of the matter is, if we’re still here Gods not done with you yet… So as we wake to a New Year let us pray that the same God that carried and protected us in 2024 will be here with us in 2025.
Here’s to a better Year with New mercies and a whole lot of Gods unmerited Favor on our lives!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
My prayer for my family and friends is always that Gods peace would make our worst days unnoticeable and our best days so remarkable that we can only see the life that God has purposed for us to live… I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable evening with someone you love. I have often given this question to my friends. And I am sometimes surprised by the response that I get from this question “what does Love require?

But this verse is so clear that it not only answers what it requires. But it clearly states what the expectation for those who are walking in the Love that is given by our savior Jesus Christ.

I’m always amazed at the way Christian’s blend. Ask yourself: If they do not attend my church how do I know that they love God?

Sometimes it’s a quick conversation and often times it’s a kind gesture at an opportune moment. But if I’m being honest I really can’t see a difference in the majority of the people that I come in contact with at church and the people that I encounter at the local Walmart..
Sadly they are all in a hurry, not interested and disconnected from what’s going on around them..
But if we’re Christian’s and we’re listening. Then what we should hear God saying to us is Relax, Slow down, and observe what is happening around you. Share a kind gesture and check on people around you. Now clearly for some we would argue that’s not my personality. Just not how I am, or maybe I struggle with meeting strangers. Well if that’s you then simply remember that when you gave your life to Jesus He made you NEW!!! Old things have passed away behold ALL THINGS are NEW!!!
I love this part of the Gosple message. That we are called to a higher standard than what we have defined our life to be. God isn’t asking us to be ourselves as the world has commissioned us to be or to become. God is simply asking us to walk in his promises and his precepts that he has ordained for us like this one where he simply says Look at the way I love and do that. And then make it contagious… You see if we Love one another the way that God has Loved us and people see it.. Then they want to be a part of that..
Not that we are or look like the rest of the world because that’s contagious as well. Culture is always tempting to just follow and mimic as we walk through this thing we call life. But understand that the world is the place where we have to live but the culture of the world is not ours. No we are Kingdom people who live in a lost and dying world. But we’re called to make it a better place. This passage is exactly that. Bring the Kingdom to earth as it is already settled in heaven.. Loving one another and making it contagious.. Can you receive that this morning? Man I know that I can!!! Thank you Jesus for Loving me beyond my comprehension of love and giving me a desire to love like you.. In Jesus Name Amen!!!!

I love the Uversion Bible app..
Every day I open it up and it helps me manage my Bible reading in one way or the other.. I always read the verse of the day, listen to the devotion and even share it with my friends on social media every day. But as I am drawn to this daily habit of connecting to Gods word.
I rarely post just that verse that’s presented to me. Personally I feel like there are some verses in the Bible that are not meant to stand alone. In a world where Our faith is being used as a business model instead of a life line, I often see pastors separate verses and use those verses to support their narrative and basically distort the word of God. But I have seen this so often that it actually creates a hunger in me to want to know more. So I read the word more than I ever have and through the leading of the Holy Spirit I am better directed to the truths that are coming from this book, that are not always represented in the weekend sermons that we listen to.. Look at this.. Today the verse of the day was

John‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ ‭
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

Now when we see this verse alone we are reminded that darkness will never overcome the light. Good feeling but it is incomplete..

When you add verses 1-4 to it, look at the impact it has on the overall experience..

John‬ ‭1‬:‭1‬-‭4‬ ‭
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.”

Now the light has a name, and the light has a purpose. And most importantly the light has significance..

Now Verse 6-13 are of equal value but when we read the entire passage and come to the close of this passage just by reading verses 1-5 , verse 14 makes total sense… try it and see if you can feel it.. Read verses 1-5 and then read verse 14. I didn’t know about u but I can see the full weight of this passage just in those verses.

John‬ ‭1‬:‭14
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Now if u just had verse 5.. Then this verse has far less significance in the overall understanding of the passage.

My point to everyone is this. Take the time to read Gods Word for yourself. Don’t let the one passage given to you on Sunday or the daily devotion that you choose,
be your foundation for the week..

Decide for yourself that you are going to spend time with Jesus and not just a little time but specifically time getting the foundation of your Faith settled and grounded in the words that have been left to help us build our relationship with Jesus. Don’t be fooled by the crafty deceitful manipulation of people who worm their way into our hearts with a form of godliness but no power to hold it up.. We should all be more like the Bereans who held even the words of the Apostle Paul accountable to the truth of Gods word. Look at what it says about them.

Acts‬ ‭17‬:‭11‬ ‭
“Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.”

We have to understand that we won’t be credited for our intentions. But will be judged for our actions.. Remember Jesus himself said these words:
Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭21‬
““Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”

Now this part of the passage is in red letters so we know it is the words of Jesus himself.. But interesting enough he goes on to tell us that some will have good intentions and even show some genuine faith. But don’t neglect the relationship for the rituals of religion.. Jesus in his infinite wisdom wants to know each and every one of us personally.

So don’t settle for the surface passage. Get to know Jesus personally. And let the word fill your heart and mind with the relationship that gives us blessed assurance that you belong to him and Jesus is our savior. Can u feel that one today? I know I can, Thank you Jesus for the promise of a relationship with your children. That while we were yet sinners, You died for us. That our life would be a testament of all that you continue to do for us on this journey that we call life!! In Jesus Name!! Amen!!
