We live in a culture where “anything goes,” but that’s not the way of the kingdom, and this mindset won’t fly with God on the day of judgment. We’ll all give an account of our lives—even believers. But it’ll be different for us than for those who reject Christ. We’ll have to answer for how we stewarded our time, treasure, and talents. Did we bury them in fear? Live like practical atheists? Take God’s grace and mercy for granted?
True believers are bothered by their sin. They feel convicted when they violate their conscience or betray God’s Word. Those who insincerely profess Christ but live however they want feel no inner wince when they sin. They may have said a prayer with their mouth without meaning it in their heart. Jesus Himself said that there’ll even be people who perform miracles in His name who are not legitimate members of the family.
We’re assigned our time on earth for eternity’s sake, not for our comfort and convenience or to live our own way now and ask for God’s blessing later. We serve a holy, majestic God. He’s righteous, magnificent, pure, and powerful. He’s not one to be trifled with. Yet He continually invites us into a deep, rich relationship with Him.
