One of the scariest things I have witnessed is when the seed becomes jealous of the fruit it produced.

A father competing with his son. A mentor threatened by a mentee. A leader uncomfortable with the growth of someone they once poured into.

Healthy fatherhood and mentorship were never meant to be competitions.

The seed should never envy the fruit.
The root should never resent the branches.

Real maturity says:
“Your growth does not threaten me, it reflects the investment I made in you.”

Jesus said:

“He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do…” John 14:12

And John the Baptist declared:

“He must increase, but I must decrease.” John 3:30

True leadership celebrates growth. The goal was never to create people who stay beneath us, but to raise people who go further, do greater, and rise because of what was poured into them.

The Power of the Suddenly Is Found in the Waiting

In Bible Class last evening, we revisited Sunday’s message, Seeing Is Believing. During our discussion, Pastor Lady O shared a powerful takeaway about the simplicity of the Holy Spirit and His daily role in our lives, especially in sanctification, healing our belief systems, and sustaining us while we wait.

She challenged us to think deeper.

Often when we preach about Pentecost in the Book of Acts, we focus heavily on one word:

“Suddenly.”

Acts 2 begins:

“And suddenly there came a sound from heaven…”

That word suddenly captures our attention because it points to a divine interruption, a manifested promise, a moment when heaven touches earth. Suddenly is exciting. Suddenly gives hope. It reminds us God can move unexpectedly.

But before there was a suddenly, there was waiting.

Jesus had already given the disciples instructions:

“Wait.”

Wait in Jerusalem.

Wait for the promise.

Wait for the Helper.

Wait for power.

While we celebrate the suddenly, it is the waiting that prepares us for the encounter that changes everything.

And often, it is in the simplicity of the Holy Spirit during the waiting that our daily lives are shaped, sanctifying us, healing broken beliefs, and preparing us for what God promised.

Waiting teaches dependence.

Waiting deepens hunger.

Waiting stretches faith.

Waiting develops trust.

Waiting prepares us for what we prayed for.

The disciples did not just experience a suddenly because they gathered in a room. They experienced it because they obeyed in the waiting.

The suddenly was the manifestation.

But the waiting was the preparation.

Perhaps some of us struggle to discern heaven’s sound because we want the suddenly without embracing the waiting.

Because what God forms in us while we wait will sustain what He releases in the suddenly.

Weight Watchers

Normally when we hear the phrase weight watchers, we think of a program designed to help people regulate their weight by monitoring calories and food intake because of the impact it has on their health.

But today, I want to speak about a different kind of weight.

The weight we carry as spiritual leaders.

Not because of a title.
Not because of an office held.
Not because of a position.

But because of the influence we carry and the weight of our words.

As leaders, our opinions, thoughts, emotions, and perspectives do not stop with us. They echo far and deep. They shape atmospheres, influence decisions, and often bond themselves to the belief systems of those who trust our voice.

A careless word can wound.
An unchecked emotion can mislead.
An unfiltered opinion can plant seeds we never intended to grow.

This is why spiritual maturity matters. We must be careful, prayerful, and spiritually led when we speak especially in moments of frustration, hurt, or emotion. Everything we carry has weight, and everything we release carries impact.

So before we speak, before we post, before we respond…

Let us watch our weight.
