A prayer for this Labor Day:
Dear Lord, on this Labor Day, we pause to thank You for the gift of work. Thank You for the strength in our hands, the creativity in our minds, and the purpose You give us through our daily labor. We pray for those who are employed, those seeking work, and those who are tired. Bless the work of our hands and grant us rest. Amen.

The world's peace is a temporary reprieve, dependent on favorable circumstances that shift with each new headline or unexpected loss—it offers comfort in calm but vanishes in crisis, leaving you searching for the next foothold. Jesus' peace, by contrast, isn't borrowed from outward conditions; it is woven into your very being, an unshakeable gift that remains steady when all else falters, because it rests not on what happens to you, but on whose you are. Where the world gives peace that you must constantly protect and preserve, Jesus gives peace that preserves you—quiet, complete, and not subject to the world's chaos. Join us this Sunday and discover the peace that passes all understanding. www.firstcong.org

Happy World Beard Day to all our bearded brothers out there!

I've always wondered—why did just about every prophet in the Bible have a beard? Moses, Elijah, Isaiah, John the Baptist... the list goes on! I'm sure there's a deeper reason—maybe it symbolizes wisdom, maturity, or being set apart for God's purposes. Either way, they wore them well!

But here's something interesting: God actually gives instructions about grooming in Leviticus. While He forbade certain pagan practices, He also valued care and presentation. In Ezekiel, the priests were even told to keep their hair and beards neatly trimmed. So apparently, God is pro-beard—but well-maintained beard!

So today, if you've got a beard, show it some love. Wash it, oil it, trim it. Let it represent you well—just like the prophets of old!

And for the clean-shaven among us? You're still part of the family!

Join us at www.firstcong.org—where we welcome everyone, beard or not!

Have you ever prayed the Prayer of St. Francis?

"Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace..."

It's such a beautiful prayer—but let's be honest, it can also feel overwhelming. How can we, with all our flaws and fears, possibly be instruments of peace in this chaotic world?

Here's the secret: We don't manufacture peace. We receive it.

Peace isn't something we create through effort or willpower. It's something that flows through us when we are connected to the Vine. When we draw close to God—when we rest in His presence, listen for His voice, and surrender to His will—His peace saturates our souls.

And from that place of fullness, we naturally become instruments of that same peace to those around us. It's not about trying harder. It's about being closer.

So today, don't strive. Just draw near. He is waiting for you with open arms.

Join us at www.firstcong.org as we seek His heart together. You are welcome here. ❤️

Courage isn’t always about dramatic mountain-top moments. Sometimes, it is simply staying when every fiber of your being wants to run.

As Elisabeth Elliot wisely reminded us, true bravery is often found in the quiet decision to not give up—even when the path is hard, lonely, or uncertain. It is choosing to face the day ahead, even when your heart is heavy.

But here is the beautiful truth we hold onto: We are not asked to stay in our own strength.

God has already given us the command and the promise:
“Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

When you feel like quitting, remember that He is beside you. He hasn't left you, and He isn't asking you to run ahead in fear. He is asking you to take His hand and take the next step forward with Him.

You are not alone. Stay the course. He is with you.

Visit us at www.firstcong.org to find community and strength for the journey.
