Matthew parish is in the Diocese of Los Angeles and the West of the North American Archdiocese of the Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East, one of the Great Churches of the Orthodox Church. We are in communion with the Great Churches of Constantinople, Alexandria, Jerusalem, Moscow, Athens and the other Orthodox Territorial Churches.

On Saturday morning, we will offer the service of Holy Unction for the healing of soul and body. This is a Mystery (Sacrament) of the Church and is very powerful. Holy Unction has healed cancers, paralysis, infections, organ failures, and many other physical illnesses. But, even more incredible, Holy Unction has healed sinful passion, softened evil and hardened hearts, and has sent countless Christians on the path to the Kingdom of Heaven.

As it is a Mystery of the Church, it is reserved for those who are Eastern Orthodox Christians. All Catechumens and non-Orthodox Christians will be anointed at the end with another Holy Oil.
