O God our Father,
In Jesus you call all Christian
families and homes
to be signs of living faith. By the light of the Holy Spirit,
Lead us to be thankful for the
Gift of faith, and by that gift may we
Grow in our relationship with Jesus,
Your son, and be confident witnesses
To Christian hope and joy to all we meet.

The fourth Sunday of Advent. We are closer to Jesus coming on Christmas. Today's Gospel was about the visitation of Mary to her cousin Elizabeth. As Fr. Carlos reminded us in his homily. "It's more about connecting with people, visits, calls and hugs than about the gift giving."

A Prayer to our Lady of Guadalupe (from Nativity website)
Virgin of Guadalupe,
Patroness of unborn children,
we implore your intercession
for every child at risk of abortion.
Help expectant parents to welcome from God
the priceless gift of their child’s life
Console parents who have lost that gift
through abortion,
and lead them to forgiveness and healing
through the Divine Mercy of your Son.
Teach us to cherish
and to care for family and friends
until God calls them home.
Help us never to see others as burdens.
Guide our public officials
to defend each and every human life
through just laws.
Inspire us all to bring our faith into public life,
to speak for those who have no voice.
We ask this in the name of your Son,
Jesus Christ, who is Love and Mercy itself.
Amen.

This 1st Sunday of Advent we begin to prepare for Christmas and celebrate the 1st coming of Jesus. In today's Gospel, Jesus tells us how to prepare for His 2nd coming. "Be vigilant at all times and pray that you have the strength to escape the tribulations that are imminent and to stand before the Son of Man." (Luke 21:36).

Happy Mother's Day, women blessed with having children. I'm admired by the love of mothers who sacrifice their own wants and desires to give preference for what is best for their children. You show you keep today's Gospel. "This is my commandment: Love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends." John 15:12-13. God Bless you all mothers, grandmothers, godmothers and spiritual mothers.

Today is the Solemnity of the Annunciation when God called Mary to be the Mother of God and her perfect response was, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." Luke 1:38. This needs to be our response to God instead of wanting to do what we want and then regret what we did. If we pray before we make a decision, then we place our trust in the Divine Providence of God.

3/19: Today is the feast day of St. Joseph. This statue of St. Joseph holding the child Jesus is at St. Anthony of Padua in Gardena. Monsignor Pilato mentioned in his homily that St. Joseph is the greatest saint after Mary for the intimate relationship he had with Jesus who he helped to raise. Joseph the silent saint. It's in the silence we are disposed to listen to the divine inspirations of the Holy Spirit and like Joseph follow through with the will of God. St. Joseph pray for us this year that Pope Francis dedicated to you.

Today's Gospel Jesus seeing the Temple being treated like a marketplace, He turned over tables. The Jews questioned, "What sign can you show us for doing this?" Jesus answered and said to them, "Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up." The Jews said, "This temple has been under construction for 46 years, and you will raise it up in 3 days?" But he was speaking about the temple of his body." (John 2:18-21). The excellent homily of Fr. Carlos starts off saying, by this 3rd Sunday of Lent we have become sensitive to what has to change in us. Fr. Carlos tells us to clean our house/temple that is ourselves of all the disordered stuff we are attached to. This way we can be renewed for Easter. Totally agree, my awareness is clear now about what I have to change. That's how prayer works in us during this season of Lent. We repent and go to confession. God give us the grace to continue to make the necessary changes to help make us better.

"Jesus took Peter, James and John and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves. And he was transfigured before them." Mark 9:2. At the Spanish Mass today, Fr. Carlos homily reminds us to also seek to continue to work on transforming ourselves in this Lenten journey to come to Easter more Holy.

If we know God loves us and we love God in return then we can also love others as St. Paul tells us in today's 2nd reading from 1 Corinthians 10:33, 11:1 "just as I try to please everyone in every way, not seeking my own benefit but that of the many, that they may be saved." "Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ." God is Love, 1 John 4:8. Jesus shows us perfect love, sacrificed His life to save us, accepts us as we are, forgives everything, provides, protects, heals and He is with us all the time. Makes us happy, gives us peace and for being loved so much by God we want to please Him too.

Today is the Solemnity of Mary Mother of God and our mother too. May she accompany us each day of the year along with Jesus and Joseph. As the loving mother our Lord Jesus Christ left us to take care of us and guide us closer to Jesus. Happy Blessed New Year!!!

Prayer to the Holy Family (Pope Francis, Amoris Laetitia, April 2016).

Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
in you we contemplate
the splendor of true love;
to you we turn with trust.

Holy Family of Nazareth,
grant that our families too
may be places of communion and prayer,
authentic schools of the Gospel
and small domestic churches.

Holy Family of Nazareth,
may families never again experience
violence, rejection and division;
may all who have been hurt or scandalized
find ready comfort and healing.

Holy Family of Nazareth,
make us once more mindful of the
sacredness and inviolability of the family,
and it's beauty in God's plan.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
graciously hear our prayer.

Amen.
