“For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15‬:‭16‬-‭19‬

3/1/26 Reflections • Romans 10:14-17
“Go, preach, and bear fruits!”

In these verses, the Apostle Paul outlines the chain of events by which the gospel of Jesus Christ comes to unbelievers who would eventually respond to it.
1) God sends a Christian.
2) The Christian preaches the gospel.
3) Unbelievers hear this preaching.
4) They believe in the gospel.
5) They respond in faith to the gospel, calling on the name of Jesus Christ.

We can consider two applications from this passage. First, one must examine if they have genuine faith in Jesus Christ, which requires an accurate understanding of the gospel. This faith always leads to obedience to and love for Christ. Secondly, making Christ known is the natural lifestyle of the Christian. We are to make disciples in response to Christ’s commandment (Matt. 28:19-20) and in response to the unfathomable lovingkindness of our Lord displayed on the cross. Let us continually ponder the mysteries of this grace, and let us diligently seek opportunities to share His goodness to those around us.

Brothers and sisters, it is both our duty and privilege to preach Christ to a dying world. Who is someone on your heart today?

2/22 Reflections • Romans 10:5-13

There is no need to look any further, for the truth of the Gospel is near—clear, plain, and simple: repent and believe in Jesus Christ.
To be a disciple of Christ requires both a public confession that Jesus is Lord and a personal conviction in the truth of His resurrection—the very heart and culmination of the Gospel.

2/8 Reflections • Romans 9:30-33
When one builds a house, the most critical component is the foundation. Is the foundation of your life the cornerstone, Jesus Christ?
In the final verses of the ninth chapter of Romans, Paul contrasts the spiritual conditions of the Gentiles and Israelites. On the one hand, the Gentiles did not receive the Law of God through the prophets, priests, and kings. They did not know what it was like to originally be called God’s chosen people. But they attained the righteousness of God by faith in the only One who could provide it: the God-man, Jesus Christ. On the other hand, the Israelites who did indeed receive the Law of God, failed and fell from it, not because the Law itself was faulty or erroneous, but because they strived to receive salvation by keeping the Law they could never keep. Out of rebelliousness, arrogance, and hardness of heart, the Jews rejected the cornerstone, and He became a stumbling stone to them.
Jesus Christ is unchanging (Heb. 13:8), but it is the sinner’s heart that is depraved and self-righteous. May we be reminded that we are saved only by faith given by the Holy Spirit, who allows us to recognize Christ as the cornerstone rather than a stumbling stone. All glory to God, and praise the Lord that He has done the work for us!

2/1/26 Sunday Recap • Romans 9:19-29

“God saves the elect and condemns the reprobate in His sovereignty. Condemnation, just like salvation, belongs to the Lord.”
In this passage, Paul illustrates a humbling and sobering picture of man’s relationship to his Creator God by comparing it to that of a potter and his clay. And what does this teach us? God is our Creator and Sustainer who has absolute authority over us. As sinners, we don’t like to accept this truth due to various factors, but one important matter we must concern ourselves with is whether we have a low or high view of God. Consider examining your view of God with the following questions:
How do you approach the things of God, such as corporate worship, communion, and the fellowship of believers? With reverence or casualness?
What holds the ultimate authority over your life? Is it the Word of God or your own version of morality?
Let us remember that God does all things for His glory and submit our lives to His glorious and good will.

Mid-Week Reflections • Romans 9:1-13
God saves His elect according to His sovereign will, not because of the good works one does.

In this week’s sermon passage, we first saw Paul’s sorrow and anguish over his fellow kinsman, the Israelites. To them belonged the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, the promises, and the patriarchs, and from their lineage came Jesus Christ Himself (v. 5-6). Yet, despite the chosen people’s abundant privileges, those who lacked faith in Jesus Christ could not and would never be part of God’s elect.

So then one may naturally ask, if many of the Israelites who distinctly possessed God’s special favor, could not receive salvation, has God’s Word failed?

As Paul has said in previous chapters and will also say in the following passage, “by no means!” All the physical children of Abraham will not be saved, but all the spiritual children of Abraham (those who are granted faith in Jesus Christ, the fulfillment of God’s promise) will surely be saved. One is not saved by the works they have done but purely out of God’s mercy and good pleasure. God’s perfect will may not be easy for us to understand, but He is sovereign in our election and salvation. Rather than questioning in our hearts why He has not saved some, may we marvel at the mystery that He saves sinners at all. Sola fide & soli Deo gloria!
