While we would love seeing Kansas City win a third straight Lombardi trophy, we love even more when we can serve Christ by feeding the hungry. So Bishop David Wilson of the Great Plains Conference and Bishop Bob Farr of the Missouri Annual Conference are teaming up again to encourage churches to gather as much food as possible for food pantries in their mission fields. We’ll enjoy a friendly competition with the Eastern Pennsylvania and Greater New Jersey conferences — both of whom root quite heavily for the Eagles. If the Kansas City-area conferences collect the most food, Bishop Wilson and Bishop Farr will receive Philly cheesesteaks. If the Philadelphia-area conferences collect the most food, Bishop Cynthia Moore-Koikoi will receive barbecue. Bishop David Wilson and the Appointive Cabinet invite pastors in the Great Plains to express their interest in "clear openings," which are appointments known to be open because of retirements and other circumstances. The Great Plains Conference encourages you to remember this land’s indigenous people today. In lieu of commemorating the beginning of colonization, let’s celebrate the cultures of Native people whose land we now occupy.

As many of you know, Bishop David Wilson is the first Native American elected to the episcopacy in The United Methodist Church. We are proud to call him our bishop, and we celebrate the rich culture of his Choctaw and Cherokee heritage, as well as the many others who continue to seek justice and equity for Native people even to this day.
