For Sabbath some of us went to the church closest to where we are staying and worshipped with our kids from VBS. A truck full from our team went back to the church that’s meeting in the rusty shed on Alfredo’s small farm in the hills—and this time we got to be part of the service, not just visit it. Packed in, worshiping together… it was simple and powerful.

Alex got to preach while translating for Pastor Nick. That was a highlight for him today. It was his first time. It was also fun to see members who worked at the church building site in a different light and experience their other gifts.

The church made a special meal for us—being thoughtful about what we could eat and making sure we’d be okay and not join those who are sick in our team in feeling ill. That meant a lot. It was also very tasty. Apparently Alfredo worked as a cook for six years in the U.S. We definitely prayed over the meal and took some charcoal as well. So far so good.

A few highlights our team mentioned from the day:

Some of the group took a short hike to a lookout over a cliff where we could see into Honduras
Gia enjoyed talking with Pastor Nick while he was practicing a little guitar before VBS
Tony had little kids checking in on him at VBS to make sure he was feeling ok as he is recovering from being sick
Stephanie had kids asking if she’d come back tomorrow and she really enjoyed getting to connect with the pastor’s wife
The Kansas and Washington teens are really starting to connect
Rebekah is grateful Tasi was able to eat today—our sick group is getting better (thank you for praying)
Malia learned how to make pupusas from our amazing cooks as they were fully engaged in spoiling us with them… and they were really, REALLY good

With full bellies we ended the day with a powerful worship on choosing to serve God today from Joshua 24, and an afterglow jam session. Just a good way to close out the Sabbath.

Grateful for today. Thank you, Jesus!

Day 5

Where we saw Jesus today…

Not in one big moment—but in a hundred small ones.

A woman who had already blessed us yesterday with arroz con leche showed up again—this time with tamales, watermelon, and fresh mangoes. There is an abundance of hospitality here.

At Los Mahanos, we saw where the church is currently meeting while they wait for their building… a rusty shed. Smaller than most garages back home. And yet—full of purpose, love and hope.

Alfredo welcomed us onto his property with so much joy. He was genuinely happy to have us there, to show us his home, to share what he had. Chickens walking inside, hammocks hanging where he sleeps—and he shared a bowl of fresh, tree ripened mangos from his own trees!

We saw Jesus in healing too.
Malia wasn’t feeling well—and after prayer, she began to feel better. Several others are recovering quicker than expected. We’re thankful—but still praying.

We’ve seen Him through the kitchen team—serving with kindness, hard work, and incredible food. So many new things, and every meal feels like impressive generosity.

We’ve seen Him in our teens—stepping up, pouring into the local kids, leading with smiles and presence even after a tiring week.

And the kids here… there’s something special. Kind. Engaged. Joyful.

Even the dogs roaming around and hanging out with us bring us joy.

And through it all, one thing rises to the surface:

Jesus shows up in simple ways that change everything.

Sabbath has begun tonight.
We pause.
We rest.
We remember.

We’re grateful for a God who meets us here—and makes our lives different.

Would you pray with us?
Pray for those who are still not feeling well.
Pray for tomorrow—for the preaching, for ministering to the members, and for leading VBS with the children.

And pray that we would be people who don’t just see His goodness… but invite others to come and experience it too.

Happy Sabbath from El Salvador 🇸🇻
