Kairos Torch Topeka Kansas

Kairos Torch Topeka Kansas Kansas Kairos Torch ministers to youth incarcerated at the Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex (KJCC) in Topeka.

Kairos Torch includes an introductory two-day program for youth who live in juvenile detention or correctional facilities. The weekend is a combined effort of an ecumenical, Kairos Torch Team to introduce young men and women to Christian concepts as a means of making better choices for their lives. An ecumenical Christian team presents 72 hours of intense interaction with incarcerated youth. There

is good food, music, and time to reflect on who they really are. Each young person is encouraged to remove the masks that they wear and see themselves as God sees them. After the Kairos Torch Weekend each inmate participant will be mentored for six (6) months. The mentoring is done by the volunteer members of the Kairos Torch Team in one of the juvenile or correctional facilities. Through unconditional love and affirmation the incarcerated youth will begin to see themselves as God sees them: as unique, special, and created in the image of God. With their masks off they will be better able to make positive choices for their lives.

Weekend #27 was great! 20 young men from the Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex in Topeka participated and will be mentored one-on-one for five months. We had 1194 links in the prayer chain which means that many people committed to pray for the weekend. Below are pictures of some of the churches made by the young men and a thank you note for cookies delivered to every unit in the facility. They learned they are each God’s Special Creation and about taking off masks, forgiveness, community, and good choices. Please continue to pray for the young men, volunteers, and facility staff.

Weekend #26 was a success thanks to God's faithfulness and the prayers of many people. Lives were changed!

The numbers: 18 young men. 29 team members. 964 people who committed to pray for the weekend. $3000 in donations.

Some of the things we learned: forgiveness, taking off our masks, trust, we are God's special creations, we reap what we sow, we can control our choices but not the consequences, we can't change yesterday or control tomorrow but we have today, there is a God and I'm not Him. God Will Never Leave Us!

Up next: Weekly one-on-one mentoring for the next five months.

We appreciate and need your prayers.

On Thursday, we met the 16 young men at the Kansas Correctional Complex (KJCC) who will be in Kairos Torch #24. What a great group of guys! I asked several why they wanted to be in Kairos Torch. Some of the responses: "To see who God is."' "To get back to God." "I saw the big change it made in my friend and I want that."

Pray for us Oct 23-25 as the light of Jesus goes into a dark place. We pray the Holy Spirit will impact not just these 16 young men but every juvenile offender at KJCC, the staff and the volunteers.

Share this with your Small Group, Sunday School class, or prayer group. Message us first names and we will add them to the prayer chain for the weekend.

Weekend #24 will be held Oct 23-25 at the Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex. This will begin the 6 months of one on one mentoring. If you will pray during that weekend for the 16 young men, 24 volunteers, and facility staff, like this message and your first name will be added to a paper prayer chain.

We've had over 800 prayer warriors during previous weekends. Help us hit over 1000 for Weekend #24!

We were notified last week that a young man would be leaving KJCC this week and has no family support or help to buy clothes. He would only have the jeans and shirt that he walked out of KJCC with. Thanks to Kairos Torch volunteers, three bags of clothes and a Bible were delivered to KJCC yesterday for this young man!
