So excited for this!

This morning, the front page of the Lincoln Journal-Star spilled the beans on a major change coming to our campus. College View Academy K-12 is planning a new facility on the corner of 56th and Calvert Street where 49ers Field is currently. A new 49ers Field will be built where the academy buildings are now, a block closer to the university's residence halls and academic facilities.

We are very excited for this huge upgrade for our neighbors and friends at CVA. The new fields will also better support the current needs of our students and community guests with two regulation soccer fields, one baseball diamond and three pickleball courts. During construction, varsity and intramural athletics will use off-campus fields around Lincoln.

There are still details and approvals to work out before breaking ground, so stay tuned for more information.

This is the second time 49ers Field has moved. Its original location changed in 1967 to make room for Prescott Hall and student parking. The fields will remain a memorial to the Union students who lost their lives in World War II: Aaron Oswald, Henry Kramer, Homer Uglow and E. Marion Wade. The original field was dedicated in their memory by their friends and fellow veterans in the Class of 1949.
