Integrity is sometimes defined as doing the right thing even when no one is looking. I think it goes a bit deeper; it’s what we do when we perceive there is no accountability. In other words, how we act when we think we can get away with it. For example if you knew for certain that you could skip paying your taxes and never get caught; would you commit tax evasion?
It’s easy to control ourselves and our tongues when we are in the presence of those that would hold us accountable, the real test of our integrity is what we do in the comfort and privacy of our own home. I desire by God’s grace to be the same man behind the pulpit as I am in front of the pulpit. To be honest, I am not always, and I think that is the ultimate litmus test for integrity, to be the same person in the public eye, that you are in private.
