Saint Amelia Catholic Church

Saint Amelia Catholic Church A Catholic Parish of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo. We seek to proclaim Jesus Christ and make disciples of all nations. Monsignor Thomas F. Henry J.

In the years following World War II, the Buffalo suburbs expanded rapidly. In 1953, the Bishop of Buffalo, Joseph A. Burke, selected his own secretary, Monsignor John Lodge McHugh to shepherd the newly formed parish. The first Sunday Mass was celebrated on Sept. 13, 1953. Saint Amelia School was opened in September of 1955 by the Felician Sisters, who served until 1995, when the leadership was pas

sed to a lay principal. In the fall of 1970 the new church was opened. Designed by architect Ed Egan, a parishioner, the church has the largest seating capacity in the diocese, accommodating 1500 worshipers. The old church was transformed into a gymnasium. Maloney, came in August of 1995. The parish marked its Golden Jubilee on Sept. 13, 2003, with a Mass concelebrated by our Bishop, Most Rev. Mansell, and two dozen priests who had served the parish. The parish marked its Sixtieth Anniversary on September 13, 2013 with a Mass celebrated by son of the parish, Bishop Gregory Hartmayer of Savannah, and concelebrated by three bishops and twelve priests

2023 Summer Community Meal Program 🥪

05/29/2023

On this Day of Remembrance of the countless brave men and women who "gave the last full measure of devotion" for their nation and countrymen in wars long past and those of recent years, we plead to the God of Peace to grant us the will and courage to end conflicts of every kind here at home and especially in troubled lands now consumed with war.

We honor those of our nation who were dispatched to faraway places to defend the inherent liberties granted to all God's children and who willingly took up the cause of those oppressed as though it were their own. We hold in our hearts and will forever cherish the memory of those who never returned home, even as we marvel at those who did, scarred as they were by battle, but who nevertheless gave all they had to providing for their families and to making their communities better.

We lift-up to the Lord and offer our constant gratitude for all those now serving in our many Service branches and pray for their safety and well-being, and that of their families. They serve to remind us of the call to demonstrate the "greatest love," defined by the Lord Jesus as laying down one's life for others.

In keeping the memory of the countless men and women of our Armed Services lost in wars at home and abroad, we honor them best by redoubling our efforts to promote peace, work for justice and constantly seek greater understanding and acceptance among people of every nationality, race and creed.

- Bishop Michael W. Fisher
