Following President Dallin H. Oaks’ teaching that “Jesus Christ is the way,” The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is introducing a new Sunday meeting schedule. Under the updated format, members will attend a one-hour sacrament meeting followed by two 25-minute classes each Sunday. According to Elder David P. Homer, a General Authority Seventy, this adjustment is part of a continuous effort to help members become more devout, lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ.
A primary benefit of the restructured schedule is the direct connection it creates between home-based gospel study and church learning. Moving forward, all members will discuss the “Come, Follow Me” curriculum every single week during Sunday School. This consistency is designed to unify and reinforce what is being taught in the home with the lessons shared at church.
Additionally, the new schedule allows for weekly meetings in Young Women, Relief Society, and priesthood quorums. Elder Homer emphasized that gathering weekly in these specific organization classes will foster a deeper sense of belonging and strengthen the community among church members.
Ultimately, Elder Homer shared that participating in the development of these changes has deepened his own appreciation for Jesus Christ as the way, the truth, and the life. He noted that amidst the chaos and confusion of the modern world, Christ’s message remains simple: "Come, follow me." The new schedule is ultimately designed as a practical way to help members take a step closer to Him.
