Family friendly, straight forward, Gospel centered, Bible teaching church

united to Him and each other. The name “Lutheran” comes from the great reformer, Martin Luther. In a period in history when the Church had lost sight of its Savior and the truth of his Word, Martin Luther boldly challenged these errors and preached Jesus Christ as Savior. We are proud to remember his work in bringing to light the truth of God’s Word by using his name to identify ourselves

As you prepare for back to school, remember to help your child prepare to keep God’s word in their hearts
“My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity.” Proverbs 3: 1-2

Friend, do you remember what it was like when you were in school? Do you remember having your identity challenged when you thought differently? Do you remember others trying to tell you who you were and how you should act? Do you remember wanting to fit in and being tired of being different?

It doesn’t take much for the world to define what and who is beautiful, cool, the in-crowd, or label the invisible ones. Our children are bombarded with ideas defining their identity and worth from all sorts of direction.

The only way they will be able to combat the negative influences headed their way is with the truth of God’s word rooted deeply in their hearts.

Remind your child of his/her identity. Speak scriptures and prayers aloud over your kid. Write scripture on the mirror in the bathroom, reminding your child the truth of God’s word.

Don’t be afraid to saturate your home with praise and worship music, audio Bible readings in the car, or prayer right before football practice. Making prioritizing reading and studying God’s word will prepare our children for the spiritual battle they will face every day away from you. Prepare them well.

As you prepare for back to school, remember to help your child prepare to surrender their hearts to Jesus.
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73: 26

Very early children have a desire to be independent. They quickly shift into the “I can do it myself” mode. As much as we want them to learn how to be independent, we want them to grow up to be entirely dependent on God. Guiding our children to surrender their hearts to God will go against a world telling our children they need to hustle, make things happen, and rely on themselves.

Teaching our children to surrender to God requires us to include them in how we surrender daily to Christ. Model for them how and what you pray. Talk to them about ways they can rely on God for strength and direction throughout their school day. Remind them living surrendered is a posture or way of living walked out in their daily decisions.

Surrender to God says less of me more of you.
Surrender says to God not my will but yours.
Surrender says to God I don’t have to everything figured out because You have it all worked out.

As our children start a new year, they may want to find strength in their abilities, in their friends, or maybe even in you. Instead, let’s teach our children their strength for enduring, growing, and learning will come from their position of surrender to Christ.

In preparing for back to school, remember to prepare your children to guard their hearts.
“Above all else, guard your heart for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23

As our children prepare to walk the halls, they will be exposed other influences contrary to the way we raise them. We can’t shelter them from the world, but we can prepare them to be a light for Christ in the world. To equip our children, we must teach them to guard their hearts.

Out of their hearts will our children be led. Their will, their mind, their thoughts, and their actions are simply reflections of their hearts. Our responsibility as parents are to help guide them on how to cultivate a heart after God. As their hearts hunger for God, the ways of God, and an intimate relationship with God, their actions, will, thoughts, and actions will align with the truth of God’s word.

Make prayer, family devotion, Bible reading, praise, and worship a regular part of your child’s day. It may seem awkward at first; but our children need us to show up to guide them in their spiritual development. We wouldn’t allow our children to go to school without doing their homework, so they are prepared for school. Why would we let our children go out into the world unprepared to guard their precious hearts against evil?

We only guard what we find valuable. Teaching our children to guard their heart is not about putting up walls to isolate. Guarding keeps jealousy, hatred, rejection, and anger from taking root in their heart. Instead, they guard their heart so they can be open to love, reconciliation, peace, and joy. We are teaching them to guard their hearts because, from the heart, every other part of the body can function correctly.

In preparing for the upcoming school year, let's join in prayer. Pray for our teachers and school leaders to lead with love

1 John 4: 17-18 MSG—“God is love. When we take up permanent residence in a life of love, we live in God, and God lives in us. This way, love has the run of the house, becomes at home and mature in us, so that we’re free of worry on judgment day—our standing in the world is identical with Christ’s. There is no room for fear. Well-formed love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful life-fear of death, fear of judgment-is one not yet fully formed in love.”

🤔 How does the world define forgiveness? How do YOU define forgiveness?
💭 The Truth is: forgiveness is misunderstood by so many because they aren’t asking the right question — How does GOD define forgiveness? Is it forgetting? Is it a one-time act? Or is it something different?
✅ God’s word tells us it is a daily choice that leaves the stone alone.

A Prayer on Independence Day

Lord God almighty, you reign over all the earth! You are King of Kings, and to you every knee must ultimately bow. We thank you for this nation, our United States of America. You created government to be a blessing to your people. We recognize how especially blessed we American Christians are because freedom of religion and freedom of speech are guaranteed to us in our Bill of Rights. Help us to use these freedoms for a blessing, not only for ourselves but also for our fellow citizens. In freedom to worship, let us worship. In freedom of speech, let us build our fellow citizens up, and share the good news in our Savior Jesus.

Lord, bless our nation and its government. We ask for leaders who are wise, honest and diligent in their calling, but help us also to be citizens who reflect those same values in our lives. Bless all who work for our government, from its highest offices to the humblest office worker, that our country may enjoy good order and the blessings that you intended government to secure for its citizens. Especially protect and guide all who put themselves in harm’s way for their fellow citizens, our military, our fire departments, police and others who serve to protect us. Bless those who are nurturing and teaching the next generation of Americans. May our Independence Day celebrations reflect our gratitude for the undeserved blessings of prosperity and freedom which has been ours at this time in history. Whether we gather as families or citizens, at picnics or parades, may we reflect the joy of living under You in this blessed country! God bless America! Amen.
