THE SUNDAY OF ALL SAINTS

This Sunday, the Church honors all the saints — known and unknown — who followed Christ with faith, courage, and love.

From the apostles and martyrs to monks, mothers, fathers, and countless faithful Christians throughout history, their lives remind us that holiness is possible for every person who seeks God.

The saints were not perfect people. They were ordinary people who trusted God, carried their crosses, and remained faithful through trials and hardships.

Their witness encourages us to keep our eyes on Christ, who is the source of our strength and the author of our salvation.

As we celebrate all the saints, we are reminded that we are called to the same journey of faith, repentance, and union with God.

No Fast

“Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.”
— Hebrews 12:1-2

What Makes Orthodoxy Unique? ☦️

Orthodox Christianity is one of the oldest Christian traditions in the world, preserving a continuous faith and worship that traces back to Jesus Christ and His Apostles.

Some of the defining characteristics of Orthodoxy include:

• Unbroken Apostolic Faith – A living tradition passed down for nearly 2,000 years through the Church.

• The Divine Liturgy – A form of worship rooted in the early Church, drawing believers into a deeper encounter with God.

• The Holy Mysteries (Sacraments) – Including Baptism, Chrismation, the Eucharist, Confession, Marriage, Ordination, and Holy Unction.

• Theosis – The belief that the purpose of the Christian life is to grow in union with God through His grace.

• Prayer, Fasting, and Spiritual Discipline – Ancient practices that nurture inner transformation and a closer relationship with Christ.

• Icons – Sacred images that proclaim the reality of the Incarnation and serve as windows to heavenly realities.

• Unity in Diversity – Orthodox Christians worship in many languages and cultures around the world, yet remain united in the same faith, sacraments, and apostolic tradition.

For Orthodox Christians, faith is more than a set of beliefs—it is a way of life, a journey of transformation, and a continual pursuit of communion with God.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” — Hebrews 13:8 ☦️

HOLY PENTECOST

This Sunday, we celebrate Holy Pentecost — the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and the birth of the Church.

As the Apostles gathered together, the Holy Spirit came upon them like a mighty wind and tongues of fire, filling them with grace, courage, and the power to proclaim the Gospel to the world.

Pentecost is the fulfillment of Christ’s promise:
that the Holy Spirit would come to guide, strengthen, and remain with His people.

It is a feast of life, renewal, and divine presence —
a reminder that the Holy Spirit still moves among us, bringing peace to the heart and light to the soul.

FATHERS OF THE 1ST COUNCIL

This Sunday, the Church honors the holy Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council — the bishops who gathered in Nicaea to defend the true faith and proclaim that Jesus Christ is truly the Son of God.

Guided by the Holy Spirit, they protected the foundation of Orthodox Christianity and gave us the Nicene Creed, still proclaimed in the Church today.

In the Gospel, Christ prays:
“That they may be one.”

A reminder that truth, unity, and faithfulness to God remain at the heart of the Church through every generation.

THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD

Forty days after the Resurrection, Jesus Christ ascended into Heaven before His apostles — not to leave the world behind, but to open the way for humanity toward the Kingdom of God.

Ascension of Jesus

In the Orthodox tradition, the Ascension is the fulfillment of the Resurrection and the sign that human nature is lifted into glory with God.

In Orthodox iconography, Christ is shown in divine light and glory, carried by angels, while the apostles and the Virgin Mary look toward Heaven — a symbol of hope, faith, and humanity’s calling to eternal life.

On this feast, Orthodox Christians greet one another with:
“Christ is Ascended!”
and the response:
“Indeed He is Ascended!”
