Another soon to be priest

Third in a three-part series spotlighting the three men whom Bishop Daniel E. Thomas will ordain to the priesthood for our Diocese Saturday, June 25 at Rosary Cathedral.

Meet Rev. Mr. Jeffery Smith of New Riegel and St Mary's Catholic Church, son of James and Elaine Smith.

Deacon Smith is a 2004 graduate of Hopewell-Loudon High School. He has a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from The Pontifical College Josephinum and a Master of Divinity degree from the The Athenaeum of Ohio's Mount St. Mary's Seminary.

Who are your favorite saints? Why are they your favorite saints?
Mary, because she was open to whatever God asked of her. St. Joseph, he served the Lord with great humility. The Jesuit Martyrs, they suffered for the love of God.

What are your hopes for the future of the Catholic Church?
I hope that we set the world on fire with the love for God and one another.

Second in a three-part series spotlighting the three men whom Bishop Daniel E. Thomas will ordain to the priesthood for our Diocese Saturday, June 25 at Rosary Cathedral.

Meet Rev. Mr. David Kidd of Lima and St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church-Lima, son of Kevin and Kathleen Kidd.

Deacon Kidd is currently studying for a Licentiate in Sacred Theology in Fundamental Dogmatic Theology at Pontificia Università Gregoriana. He will complete his studies in the spring of 2017.

He is a 2005 graduate of Lima Central Catholic High School. He has a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from The Pontifical College Josephinum and a Bachelor's degree in Sacred Theology from Pontifical Gregorian University.

Who are your favorite saints? Why are they your favorite saints?
Mary because she is Jesus' mother. Saint John Vianney because he is the patron of parish priests. Saint Charles Borromeo because he is the patron of seminarians.

What advice would you offer young people about discerning a vocation to the priesthood and religious life?
If it is a true call from Christ Himself to become a priest or a sister, it won't go away no matter how much we try to run from it.
